The Particle Ni
So in this case the particle "ni" 「に」is kind of like the English word "to".
In fact, it's about as flexible as the English word "to" too!
It can mean "to" as in "Going to someplace." or "talking to somone"
"ni" has other meanings and uses. But for now we're going to focus on the above.
In this case, we'll be using "to" as in "talking to someone"
To use the particle "ni", much like the other particles we've used so far, it is to be placed AFTER the word it's modifying.
So for instance:
I talk to the cat. Watashi wa neko ni hanashimasu. わたし は ねこ に はなします。 私は猫に話します。
Direct translation: I (wa) cat to speak.
Let's look at some others:
I speak to her. Watashi wa kanojo ni hanashimasu. わたし は かのじょ に はなします。 私は彼女に話します。
He speaks to the girl. Kare wa onnanoko ni hanashimasu. かれ は おんなのこ に はなします。 彼は女の子に話します。
The boy speaks to the dog. otokonoko wa inu ni hanashimasu. おとこのこ は いぬ に はなします。 男の子は犬に話します。
Some instances where you'll be using "ni" won't actually have the English word "to" in it. So try to keep this in mind:
Ni is to be used whenever an action is directed at someone/something else.
Hopefully that will make more sense coupled with some context examples.
We read them a book. Watashitachi wa karera ni hon o yomimasu. わたしたち は かれら に ほん を よみます。 私達は彼らに本を読みます。
She reads us the newspaper. Kanojo wa watashitachi ni shinbun o yomimasu. かのじょ は わたしたち に しんぶん を よみます。 彼女は私達に新聞を読みます。
They read us the menu. Karera wa watashitachi ni menyu- o yomimasu. かれら は わたしたち に メニュー を よみます。 彼らは私達にメニューを読みます。
^^; Sorry for how short this was. We're kind of low on verbs to use for these examples. As well as the fact that I am splitting one lesson into 3. :D I suppose all is well though, because new particles can be a little tough (boy don't I know it).
So that's it for today. ^_^

Thursday 15th November-Lesson 24 (Magazine production)
Lesson 24 0f 27
Lesson #24
Lesson #24 - My friends and I aren't bad drivers...we are just very, very, very reckless drivers. We've come to the conclusion that anyone who hasn't grown up with us and done this with us their entire lives would be extremely alarmed if they were to drive with us. We should probably work on fixing that, but I feel like it won't happen anytime soon.
I may or may not have been eating a bowl of mac 'n cheese while driving with my knees, texting, and going 62mph on the way home from work...My friends and I may or may not steer for each other from the passenger/back seat of each other's cars...Good thing I don't drive for the majority of the year anymore...
