Thursday 10th January-Magazine production (Need to add another screen shot of contents page) Today I continued my work on the contents page
Monday 7th January-Magazine production (Note to self-get a screen shot of progress made on monday which will be the first few steps of creating the contents page/creating a new back cover Today my day has begun with attempting to crack the back page, although the majority of the class really like the idea of the back page (model walking away) there is one major problem and that is the fact that the image is clearly shot inside of college which to be honest, doesn't give off the most professional of looks. My personal opinion of the current back page is that the idea could have the potential to work if both the front and back image are similar in location otherwise, it doesn't really make much sense or have a purpose. This led me to browse through the photoshoot in which we had taken the cover photo from, I was hoping I would come across another "back shot" but with a similar background to the front cover. There were two photos One week until the final hand in and still, we have no contents page. I thought now would probably be a good time to start it. There is a valid reason however as to why we have left this page so late, the idea being that we will have a sort of screen shot to represent pages upon the contents meaning that until each page in the magazine is finished, we cannot take the final screen shot incase the likely event of adjustments are made. At this point, there are a few pages completed such as the a-z of films, one of the festival pages and the contributors page therefore I can begin placing them on the contents. To do this is a very simple task (well you would think that) as it is a matter of exporting the inDesign files as a Jpeg and opening the Jpegs in photoshop ready to crop and place. Well, when attempting to open the Jpeg files in photoshop I discovered that photoshop could not read the format (even though they were Jpeg) which seemed very peculiar. However this problem was easily solved by dragging the files from the server directly into photoshop which for some reason meant they were a readable format.
Thursday December 20th-Magazine production MOCK UP #2 Minutes Taken by: Jade Markham Front Cover: Looks better with the bluer tones, barcode needs to be sorted out, everyone’s happy with the changes.
Advert 1(double page) (Emma) Old perfume shoot with Chloe needs to be added Contributors page (Lucyann and Chloe) Border been added to the bottom, maybe one going to be added to the top of the page too. Order of people have been changed so everyone is in sections.
Contents page (Lucyann) Contents page yet to be finished-awaiting finished pages
Advert 2 (Alex) WKD advert is so much better, a lot simpler, better, not as harsh colour scheme. Needs to be added “drink aware UK.’
Festival page 1 (10 lessons I learnt at Reading) (Lucyann) New one is lots better, more colours been added, looks very professional. No text overlapping.
Festival page 2 (My V experience) (Jade) Looks better, font has changed; maybe fade the edges of the pictures.
Music reviews (Sophie) Articles need to be done; font needs to be changed. Title looks a lot better.
Tim Walker feature (Emegha) Need to get rid of the white writing over the picture. Fashion photoshoot (Sara) (Sophie) Photos are really professional, just text needs to be added.
Fashion photoshoot (Neon Nights) (Chloe) Nothing needs to really be changed.
Advert 3 (Topshop) (Alex) Going to reshoot with a boy and a girl on location. Boy/girl trends (Emma and Jessie) Completely changed the whole page, such a big improvement, borders still need to be added.
Fashion photoshoot (Flirty Floral) (Emma and Jessie) Borders needed to be added ‘Flirty Floral’ font needs to be changed.
Fashion photoshoot (male on location) (Emma and Jessie) Completely reshot, borders need to be added but other than that, page is absolutely fine, needs no adjustments.
Beauty pages (Hannah) Borders need to be added, changed some of the page looks better, circles and colour have been added which makes it look very professional and more fun.

Film reviews (Emegha) Borders need to be added.
A-Z of films (Kelsey and Lewis)
Has changed lots, looks so much better and not so overcrowded, and just needs to add borders.
Extreme sports page (Matt) Nothing needs to be changed.
Monday 10th December-Lesson 34 (Magazine production) Today, my aim was to get this cover finished. I have spent so many weeks adjusting this page and I just wanted to have the satisfaction of knowing it was done and out of the way. I think i am 90% sure it is now finished although I will more than likely get back to it on Thursday and hate it and begin rearranging all over again. Thursdays lesson left me with a full page image, a whole new font and cover lines to be included within the circle (issue number and a slogan) I left Thursdays lesson feeling confident about the page, I felt the knew choice of font worked so much better and adding more text has solved the problem of the empty looking circle. When referring back to it this afternoon I felt that the image needed something adding to it, it seemed the clothing had a good bright exposure to it yet her face seemed a little washed out and not quite as striking. I worked with the burn and dodge tools which I believe enhances exposure and shadows on a image. I used the dodge tool upon her face to brighten it up and try and create a more even skin tone, with the burn tool i could enhance colours which worked really well on the models lips, eyes and parts of her hair.
Thursday 6th December-Lesson 32 (working to a brief)
Today Chloe and I created a questionnaire designed to give us as magazine producers a better idea of the audience we were reaching out to, the questions included preferences of music genres, shopping outlets, income, age, residential status and nationality. I feel these questions help in the sense that we can aim to create a magazine that is relevent in its content and will appeal to the correct target audience. We know that the majority of readers aged 16-21 are students so an important factor we can consider is the products we decide to place within the magazine, it is simply a waste of time including designer items as they are not realistically accessible to students with low incomes. Therefore we have learnt that high street fashion and beauty is what we should be aiming to include. The questionnaire however gave us a better insight into the exact fashion outlets we should be including, a popular choice it seemed was Topshop/Topman.
Thursday 6th December-Lesson 33 (Magazine production) Added header and footers to the contributors page Established a font for the majority of page titles (Bebus New) and a font size for text (8/9)
Monday 3rd December-Lesson 31 (magazine production) After last weeks mock up I decided that it was time to get into gear and really aim to get my pages completed. I began with my festivals page as it was the page I felt needed the most work upon and would more than likely take the longest. Issues with the page that were discussed amongst the class in last weeks session were prioritised first (Main title to be fitted into the triangle, text to be fitted to fill the triangle and placement of the triangle upon the page as it was slightly wonky)
Thursday 29th November-Lessons 29 & 30 (Working to a brief/Magazine production) Today was the deadline for the magazines first mock up so our day was solidly focused on getting our pages finished to a printable standard and in some sort of order ready to present and talk through in todays magazine production lesson. I knew my pages were not perfect and a lot of adjustments needed to be made to them however, I felt they were at a good enough standard to present to the class in order to get my idea of the layout and content across. My main stress of today was getting the front cover done, I had been working on it for a number of weeks now but no matter what i kept doing to the page, there was something I just didn't like about it. My main problem was the fact it looked too simple, as though it had been put together in a space of a few minutes, there was something more it needed. I tried adding more text in a banner form at the top of the page but decided it looked cheap and tacky. I then tried adding effects to the main image using the photoshop filter gallery which I actually really liked, that is until Seb and Nick declared there hate for filter gallery effects claiming they are a cheap and nasty thing to use...especially for a magazine front cover.
Minutes Taken by: Jade Markham
Front Cover: Need more text, what’s in it? What’s the point? Don’t like the barcode, its too big, likes the simplicity. Not eye-catching. Preferred the cartoony version of the front cover. Need something to fill up the space where the barcode will be taken out.
2-3: Chloe’s perfume ad
3-4: Contributor’s page: Need a border around the page, not yet completed. Likes the 4, 5, 4 setup. Maybe we could make it more personal by writing a sentence each about our self/ input put into the magazine.
Contents: Still needs to be completed.
4-5: WKD advert: Doesn’t like the font. Need border. Strip along the top to say what section of the magazine it is.
10 Lessons I learnt at reading: Need border. Need to sort out the overlapping text. Strip along the top to say what section of the magazine it is.
5-6: Jades Festival Page: Like the pictures. Going to actually change the article, maybe a diary page?
Music Reviews: Don’t like the font of the title, some people do, some people don't. Everyone likes the layout of the page, doesn't need much doing to it,
7-8: Tim Walkers Storyteller (Feature): Really like the page, just needs a border on it, likes the black boxes around the photos, looks really professional. Only problem white writing overt the picture needs changing.
9-10: Sophie’s Page: High Fashion, all going to be in black and white. (Yet to be done)
11-12: Sophie’s Page: High Fashion, all going to be in black and white. (Yet to be done)
12-13: Alex’s Topshop Ad: Really like this, professional, Topshop needs to be changed possibly to the other side, also needs to be changed to the other way round, landscape.
Street Style: This week you wore, who what and wear. Not yet finished. A little bit similar to the contributor’s page, layout needs to be changed a little.
13-14: Hot trends:Needs to be changed completely, maybe have a look at the ASOS website to look for inspiration. Need to change the background to a plain white background because the current one clashes.
14-15: Blossoming Trends: Text needs to be smaller. Discussed the flowers in the corner, whether they will work or not?
15-16: Safari Sunset: Nobody in the group likes the pictures, think that it looks way to laid back and not professional. Font needs to be changed. Need to go on location rather than in the studio.
16, 17, 18: Backstage Beauty: Really like it, font needs to be smaller and changed. Where there from need to stand out more. Love the pictures and the makeup. Higher quality pictures, better lighting, need to do a different shoot. A little crowded, need to play around with the title. Maybe get other models to do different types of make-up, adds a little bit of diversity. Echo Elliot for the natural makeup. Maybe make each picture into a Polaroid.
19: High street Vs. High-end: Font needs to be smaller, stick a border on it all. Other than that there is not much that needs to be changed on this page, really good!
20-21: Nightlife: Text at the top right hand corner of the page needs to be taken away. Colour scheme needs to be changed. Needs to write on each little section what city it is in. black against the blue, is hard to read.
22-23: Film Review: Needs to make it more individual, get rid of the boxes around the text. Make the title bolder so that it stands out from the rest of the page, maybe make it bigger.
Paranormal Activity Ad: Need to add the font and take the CD case off.
23-24: A-Z Top Films: Needs a border. A little jumbled but people will pick out what they want to read. Lots of good content. Minor tweaks to be made. Could benefit an introduction. Two black lines to frame it.
24-25: Extreme Sports: Could benefit a border. Need to maybe change the white box. Text far too close to the edge on the board, make font size smaller, also be able to get more letter characters in the lines. A little bit of a gap at the bottom could be filled up with something.

Todays lesson, Chloe and myself carried out progress reports with each member of the class to get a better idea of how each page of the magazine was coming along. Chloe took notes whilst I asked a few questions. We feel it is important to hold these meetings regularly to ensure nobody is falling behind/has any concerns and that the magazine will be ready for a mock up in a few weeks.
Monday 12th November-Lesson 22 (Magazine production) Todays lesson I have been checking through our current photoshoots and how they are looking along with getting on with this street style page. I have made some slight adjustments to this page- as of Monday we had began cutting around images meaning there would be no background however, after referring back to the page today and discussing it with Chloe, we decided that it really wasn't working and a background upon the pictures would look so much better. Here is my current progress of the page-There will be 9 images upon the page each with peoples names and descriptions of the clothes they are wearing. I am slightly worried this page is a little too simple to create and lacks creativity, I also feel as though it is pretty similar to our contributors page which could be both a good and bad thing. Although similar pages will create an obvious running theme which will look professional, it could also become boring to look at. I will continue working upon the page with this layout in mind however, when the mock up magazine is printed I will ensure to cover these concerns I am having and see what the rest of the group are thinking.
Thursday 8th November-Lesson 21 (Magazine production) Todays I spent the magazine production lesson assisting chloe with a photoshoot idea for the fashion pages. Although Chloe took all of photos with the model I was there to help decide and give my opinions on the different outfit choices, the way in which the model was posing and the location. I'm happy with the outcome of the photos and like how this photoshoot takes fashion to a different level with clothing you would not see in your average high street shop. Its a bit wacky and interesting to look at and will also differ completely to the other fashion pages creating a diverse range of styles for the magazine.
Thursday 8th November-Lesson 20 (Working to a brief)
Todays lesson was a bit of a mad rush, desperately trying to complete essays for both this lesson and critical approaches. Not a lot of magazine planning was made however I feel as though I am personally on top of my own work with a nearly completed contributors and festival page. I am currently working on the street style page along with Chloe which needs little preparation or planning as the content and layout is going to be pretty simple. Plans which were discussed however were a fashion photo shoot taking place in todays magazine production lesson, I would be assisting in Chloe with styling and promoting of the model and location.
