I haven't had as much time for my CL re-watch as I'd like and I miss talking about CL, so I thought I'd make a post about something I've been thinking about again (Ulumi, ofc)
Specifically, Ulrich's reactions when they fight.
My argument: Yumi and Ulrich actually communicate pretty ok! Even their pain points highlight why they could work out with some growth.
My examples, your honor:
First! In Laughing Fit, Yumi is upset about her parents fighting and sulking.
God love him but Ulrich tries to cheer her up and pulls a William before we even knew what a William was. She says she doesn't feel like talking and he says, "Well, I DO feel like talking!"
He's clearly trying to be cute, and I imagine in almost any other situation this probably would have worked. Because he is cute, and we all know that.
However, in this situation, Yumi responds, "the FUCK you do!" Our temper tantrum queen stalks off because she does not like being pressured when she is stressed.
Now this is the important part to me: He sees his attempt did not work, and he is not upset that Yumi snapped at him! If anything, he's that meme - "If you see me getting yelled at by a tall goth girl, don't send help, because i'm right where i want to be."
He's literally so unbothered. He knows she's feisty and he knows she's not actually upset at him, so he takes a step back and adjusts his approach to something she'll listen to.

NOW in contrast Routine is back to haunt us:
This time Yumi is mad at him personally and it's for something he didn't even do! This is where we see a classic Ulrich 'shut down and shut everyone out.'
Side note, but I think this comes from Ulrich's relationship with his parents. He just has SUCH a hard time with criticism and totally disengages if he feels nagged at all.
That response is the extreme though! We know this because, in Image Problem, Ulrich gets PISSED at (clone) Yumi for seriously suggesting that he should date Sissi. To me, this says that Ulrich will tolerate a lot from Yumi (even kick him in the face when they're sparring??) and he'll eat it up, but there are SOME boundaries. His response here is a healthy angry reaction. Obviously, clone Yumi isn't real Yumi, so we're limited in what we can learn, but I think we can assume his anger and surprise means she doesn't purposely push his buttons very often.
Later, with real Yumi, she makes a joke about how her clone tried to kiss Jeremie and Ulrich has another healthy reaction which is, "No, thank you." And she stops and apologizes! Also a good sign.
SO
All of this to say, I think Ulumi can work. (At least, from Ulrich's perspective. We can talk about Yumi another time.)
I really think Ulrich would let Yumi get away with murder as long as she came home to him at the end of it. He absolutely cannot process any sort of negative feedback at the start of the series, but he gets better at that as the series goes on AND Yumi gets better at talking to him about it.
It's obvious that she doesn't want to nag him for the sake of nagging. If anything, Log Book shows that she does like him AND she respects him. She respects his privacy, she respects his emotions, and she respects that he's got some serious boundaries. Those are HUGE pros in Ulrich's mind. Once he can hear her concerns about their relationship as legitimate concerns and not just his parents' voice in his ear telling him he messed up, it seems like a great match-up for their communication styles on Ulrich's end.

I’ve been thinking of asking him out on a proper date and not just out for coffee or going to the bar with our friends >:)c

First time Dad Choso! who wouldn't want to put the baby down when you get home from the hospital (he totally when he got to hold them in his arms for the first time) and gets overwhelmed to the brink of tears when his baby is fussy or starts to cry because he thinks the baby crying means he is not being a good father.
we don't talk about dad!choso enough, and I feel like you're so right for this!
he does get really overwhelmed, and I'm thinking it is because he's never loved anything more in his life before. he's an anxious dad, but he tries so hard to do his best - and when his baby gets fussy he panics because he thinks he's the one doing something wrong :c you're there to reassure him otherwise, to help him through these moments, and he takes your advice every single time.
he's a great father because of this, because he listens and is willing to learn from his mistakes, and you love that your baby is so attached to him :c

Hey , thanks for answering my ask. I feel bad to even asking if you're still active or not. What you've been through is a lot and living hell , I know what I speak from course been through the same not long ago and have weekly mental health treatment ever since. Please take all time you need. Your wellbeing is much more important than any request to write for people. I can wait and pretty sure everyone else also can.
