The #LetAdrienEat tag. 

Basically the whole tag is a load of shit. 

Like I get, the whole point of it with the Adrien being denied the cookies thing in The Gamer, but other than that, there’s a lot of people who take this seriously. I swear, this fandom and Tumblr have tested me. The day I saw someone insisting that Adrien needs a 5,000 calorie diet at least to be healthy and function was the day I died. My soul left my body when I read how he needed 5,000 calories and how he was being starved because he has to remain thin for being a model, and how it doesn’t compensate for all his activities and everything. 

First off, let me be the first to tell you that’s stupid and don’t buy into that headcanon. 

Please don’t get me wrong: the trope of Adrien being starved is slightly realistic if done right. I don’t have an issue with people using that trope, of him getting less calories than he needs, like I understand. It’s plausible considering his modeling tendencies, Gabriel Agreste’s strict regime he has Adrien on, and the activities that Adrien gets up to in his free time. What I do have a problem with is when people insist that Adrien needs thousands upon thousands of calories to be healthy.

Scientific fact can tell you where to shove that headcanon.

Let’s start with the original claim that Adrien needs 5,000 calories a day. 

The idea that Adrien needs at least 5,000 calories a day to function is based off of 2 things: 1) his activities of fencing and basketball as extracurriculars, as well as 2) his superhero duties. With the diet he’s currently on, he must remain a constant weight class for modeling, neither gaining weight or losing it, keeping the slim and trim figure, but also take in enough calories to participate in the athletic activities he is in. 

However, the idea that he needs 5,000 calories is ridiculous. Like I’m talking of utterly epic proportions.

Allow me to educate you.

As a male who is somewhere between 14-16 and is moderately active to active in terms of activity level, Adrien requires somewhere between 2400-3200 calories. This estimated is based on healthy weight maintenance and performing optimally at his activities. With being a moderately-active 14-year-old boy needing 2400 calories a day, and a 16-year-old active boy needing 3200. 

Do you know what would happen if Adrien took in 5000 calories a day and didn’t use the extra? He’d gain weight. It’s simple maths. A pound is 3500 calories, and if he’s taking in 5000 calories and only needs 3200 calories, then he’s left with 1800 calories a day. That means within 2 days, he’s already gained 1 pound. 

This is the bare bones, and there’s a lot more science that I can go into such as the use of the Miraculous and how it boosts his natural abilities with its magic, but that’s a whole other ballgame. For now, here’s what I know:

1) 5000 calories is an ungodly number, and it’s a stupid ass headcanon.

2) Adrien could benefit from eating more sure, but the kid ain’t starving.
