You come knocking down doors
and wrap us in your presence
with claws of winter chill
and a scream of sinister silence
You take away our
smiles and replace it with frowns
you shut our medium of escape
as you moan out dispiriting sounds
You put us on a thorny path
and leave us in the middle of chaos
as diseases we develop of undiscovered
consequences and loans we pay off
You call us names
in the middle of the night
taunting and throwing us off track
as we thrive for what is right
You bribe our impulses
to be reckless and cynic
and then feed on what's left
as we frequent visits to the clinic
But don't you think
you can dampen our spirit
by leaving us bruised because
those are the marks of defeating your midgets
You can make our life hell,
but beware,
if we can blow the candles off for you
we can light them on again.
