Orchestra Julian - “Latin Fire”. (TPI Records cat. TPI-1002). OK so this is interesting and well worth the $2 I paid for it. Private press Disco / Funk record from Caracas, Venezuela. When your brother owns one of the more famous record shops and labels in your hometown why not try your hand at releasing your own music. The Disco tracks are good with a more organic than electronic sound and feel. “Latin Fire,” has this timid trumpet that creeps around in the background while the female backing / lead vocals repeat, “Latin Fire hurts (feels) so good.” The line is sang in as many variations as they can imagine. The Late era funky tracks have a deep groove that play with sounds the way a Soul Jazz artist may, but filtered through Arthur Russell’s work for Sleeping Bag Records. Added to that is what seems like a No Wave sensibility possibly created by the unrehearsed / raw, but well played (maybe?) instruments. With that said, I am not sure what the repetitive vocals purpose is because they don’t add anything to the compositions. If this all sounds confusing, do your self a favor and find this. Or, maybe it is just a Disco record, whatever it is, it is fucking interesting. #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #recordcollection #recordcollector #TPIrecords #OrchestraJulian #JulianRomero #LetsGetHot #LatinFire #Disco #Funk #CaracasVenezuela #AlRomero
