Venus' outfit for the Reverie/Levely arc!
One Piece Chapter 1085 - Initial Thoughts
Oda likes his nice round numbers
The Reverie flashback continues, and after a cathartic incident we were left on a break, but now we're back
So Oda...what do you have for us today?
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release also
Garp is such a MF-er, but also, there is something spectacularly heartwarming about how much he loves Luffy and how proud he is of him, even though he can't or won't verbalize it very often (and even though it's often cut through with how he still thinks of Luffy as the baby).
Like this scene with Hina in the Reverie-arc:
And Garp is just like... "you guys don't know what you're in for".
I always get the feeling that Garp is not all that surprised by what Luffy is capable of (he already suspected he could use Conqueror's Haki before Marineford, for example). Sure, he did not want him to become a pirate, but maybe he fought so hard against that precisely because he knew how likely it was to happen. (Also: Garp is not exactly someone who fits comfortably into the hierarchical system of the One Piece society either).
(The Reverie arc bringing up Kuma again, Bonney again, Rocks pirates being mentioned, AND Hina talking about Garp's role in all of this... there's a crapload of foreshadowing in this little arc.)
Just Proves Even More How Human Supremacist Based The World Government Probably Is
Seriously, I would emphasize how he said humanity because again when you look at Levely you see it’s mostly human governments with one exception being the Fishman Kingdom. However, when you see that some token non-humans like giants and in some cases longarms have joined it makes you wonder why some of those non-human kingdoms haven’t been recognized. But again when you realize his words and it makes sense why human kingdoms are favored because the system is made so that humanity comes out on top to the detriment of of the other races. It feels like they can accept non-human recruits but actual footing in the grand schemes of thing is too much for them. I can imagine a lot of the non-affiliated countries are also non-human and are subjected to lots of trafficking and raids by pirates, since the world government overlooks them and thus keeps them under humanity’s thumb. Which again shows the insidiousness of a system on paper that’s supposed to protect the people but is really all about gaining power and control.
I love Sabo so much. He is absolutely mental, but like, batshit levels of crazy and HE IS THE REVOLUTIONARY ARMY'S CHIEF OF STAFF. I mean he has a big ass responsability as one of the most important people to make the revolution work, and he makes no sense. He does whatever the hell he wants. He literally looks terrifying when he explains the claw thing during Dressrosa. He enjoys chaos. He wears a ridiculous hat.
He is running around Marine Geois and the guards see him a he doesn't care at all. During an important meeting he's just smiling and thinking about Luffy (like, ok, I get it, valid, but shouldn't he think about, I don't know, LEVELY???) .
He's just vibing and doing whatever he feels like doing while having a HUGE responsability. I wish I could kiss him.
Just throwing it out there, just in case I guess right, but I kinda think Sabo was framed for the death of Cobra and the attempted assassination of Vivi. And after that I think he maybe kidnapped her.
One Piece - OP 21: “Super Powers” by V6, but the visuals have been edited to accomodate the extended version of this song.
“Super Powers” is a terribly timed opening. Starting during the last 24 episodes of Whole Cake Island, it had to be the Reverie’s opening too, just to not be the 3rd shortest opening— and it’s still the 5th shortest opening.
Super Powers is also the first opening to have the “Episode Preview” shot, a roughly 12 second shot montaging everything that’ll happen in the episode, which ofc changes episode-to-episode. I could have used these shots to fill in the entire extended opening. But that’s far too easy. Instead, I took them out, and intend to do so with every subsequent opening.
When explaining how I went about my “Hope” extended opening, I explained that I don’t like to use shots from fights already in the opening; it’s redundant. But with “Super Powers” this is completely unavoidable. It’s 2:30 minute montage of the last 20 chapters of Whole Cake Island. It covers basically everything.
Plus, how could I not make the extended visuals about Snakeman?? It would be a crime to not use clips from Episode 870. Even with Wano’s improved animation style, episode 870 still holds up as one of the best animated episodes.
I did not using any clips from the Reverie. And since “Over the Top” doesn’t begin until Wano, that means none of my extended openings have Reverie clips. I originally planned to use stuff from the Reverie, but I realized none of the clips are really useful. The Straw Hats aren’t in any of the Reverie. That arc is just huge reveals and dialogue between other people.
