These aren't in any particular order. I don't have a lot of fandoms, and I've only been reading fanfic for a few years, but these 10 have stayed with me for a variety of different reasons.
The Rules: In a text post, list ten FICS that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” works, or even all the same pairing or fandom, just the fics that have touched you or that stuck with you somehow. Tag ten friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them.
1. Dragon Fire by Rehfan. Skyfall. 00Q
Imagine if Skyfall and Richard II from The Hollow Crown had a love-child and it was raised by Game of Thrones, and you'll have an idea of this wonderful story. I think it's one of the most fun 00Q fics out there. I will say, though, that when I read it I tend to imagine Sir Bond as Rory Kinnear rather than Daniel Craig. I blame the dearth of Richard/Bolingbroke slash.
2. The Cat and Venus by ThisThatAndTheOther (Kindsokind). Downton Abbey. Thomas/Duke of Crowborough.
An adorable story about a controversial pairing: my favorite kind of fanfic. The relationship between these two naughty Edwardian men and their cat is a delight every time I read it.
3. Self Interest by Dendriticgold. Downton Abbey. Thommy
This is the first really amazing Downton Abbey fanfic I read. It's not only sexy but incredibly sophisticated in its psychological portrayals of both Jimmy and Thomas. What I really love about this story is its fearless exploration of darker issues that the show shies away from.
4. The Offering Tree by Bootsnblossoms and Kryptaria. Skyfall. 00Q
I love fairy-lore, and I love Bootsnblossoms and Kryptaria's 00Q fics, especially the ones with magical elements, so this one was a no-brainer. Every once in a while, I see a picture of Ben Whishaw that makes me think of this story and go, Yep, there's Q in the middle of his transition from fae to human.
5. As One Door Closes by MercuryPheonix. Cloud Atlas. Frobisher/Sixsmith.
There are Frobsmith stories that I read more regularly that this one, but this one sticks in my memory the most. It's incredibly moving in all the ways the film wasn't, for me. I can't even think about the part where Frobisher asks Sixsmith what it's like to grow old without tearing up.
6. The Diary of Jimmy Kent by Velvetoscar. Downton Abbey. Thommy.
This is quite simply the funniest fanfic I've ever read. I read the Christmas and Valentine's Day chapters every year at the appropriate seasons.
7. Nostalgia by Beaubete. Skyfall. 00Q.
It was so hard to choose only one of Beaubete's stories since there are several that I adore and read regularly, but this one is very sweet in addition to being very hot. Q gives Bond a gift that brings back fond memories of his past, and Bond is so tickled by it (not as literally as Q is, but you know). Enthusiastic Bond is a rare and wonderful thing to see.
8.Has the Touch by Professorfangirl. Skyfall. 00Q.
From her comments on this story on tumblr, I don't think this is the story PFG is most proud of, and it's not quite as thematically sophisticated as some of her others. But, when I want short, sweet, beautifully written smut, this is the one I read again and again.
9. Quriosity by Drgirlfriend. Skyfall. 00Q.
This story features my favorite Bond. He's so gentle and patient with Q, who is a survivor of sexual trauma. This was one of the first 00Q stories I read, and before it I imagined that this pairing's sex would look something like those National Geographic specials that show leopards eating baby antelope in trees. What a relief that it doesn't have to be that way!
10. No Place for Me by Pookiestheone. Downton Abbey. Thomas Barrow/OMC.
I love, love, love Thomas Barrow pairings with original love interests, and this one is my favorite. Not to mention that Pookie writes some of the best bittersweet fic I've ever read.
