Also very interesting how Wu talks about institutions of power and authority, mainly : The government, Wu society/sect, Heaven and Demons (or Yao). They all have great power but they aren't fair nor do they have any consideration for the people and their wellbeing. All they care about is furthering their own agendas and reinforcing their power. They are all tools of assimilation in different ways.
Li Puo chooses the demons and looses his life for it. He turns his rightful anger against the institutions of power into a tool that perpetuated the cycle of violence that fucked him up in the first place.
Fei, very interestingly chooses the government (while also using her connections to Wu and yao to further her political goals). She doesn't hestitae to sacrifice Ploy to seal Qi Rong and I feel like we'll see the consequences of Fei's choice in the last episode when the gang finally meets the president.
Finally we have Niran, who chose none of the institutions of power, but instead chose empathy and love and connection (which caused him years of pain and isolation) and has come out of it with a greater understanding of the world. He doesn't defeat the factory yao, he doesn't abandon Pete with Liu er Mihou raging in him and he doesn't abandon Ploy and the other souls devoured by Qi Rong. Which is why out of the three, he is best equipped to deal with Qi Rong.
The show really said human connection, love and empathy should be the guiding force of our lives instead of having blind faith in institutions of power. Oof.
