The Escape Artist fic I’m writing and don’t want to be writing ugh. Will Burton, Liam Foyle from BBC’s TEA starring David Tennant.
.
Everything has led to this one moment in Will’s life. A single point, the precipice to a whole new world. In one reality, he may have been quick enough to score a mark on Foyle’s bicep with his pen knife. He would have poisoned his wife’s murderer then and there, choosing to save him only because he knew he could defend himself in open court. But that is a different reality. In this reality, Will Burton is just a little slower, his hand tangled in his little pocket a moment too long and his perfect plan of revenge is derailed by a sharp laugh and a boot kicking the penknife out of his hand.
He lets out a hissed cry and holds his hand to his chest protectively. Foyle laughs again, an amused smile on his face and Will wants to rip it off. This bastard killed his wife, has left Jaime beyond traumatised and he dares to smile at Will? Bastard.
“Not bad, Will,” Foyle says, tilting his head. In his hand is Will’s phone—pulled from his pocket when Foyle pulled his leg out from under him—and the murderer looks at the screen. “Recording? That mind of yours Will, never stop thinking, do you?”
Will doesn’t answer, pressed back against the sofa, his head barely touching the seat cushion at the back, injured hand cradled against his chest. He’s all but lying on the ground, completely vulnerable. Will knew that he couldn’t take Foyle on in a fair fight, that’s why he had the penknife. But now he’s at Foyle’s mercy. The problem is Will doesn’t think Foyle has any. Not for Will, not for anyone. Foyle is remorseless.
And Will is now his captive by his own making.
