Playing A Librarian

Want to play a librarian in your game, but can't figure out what class to use? Here's some options for you!

D&D 3.5 Archivist: Base class from the Heroes of Horror supplement. An archivist is a divine caster, but uses a spellbook (called a prayerbook) like a wizard and has to prepare spells from that prayer book (except for read magic, which can be prepared from memory). Their spells mostly come from the cleric spell list, but they can learn any divine spell. Archivists also have a Dark Knowledge ability, granting the archivist advantages against various creatures if they succeed on a Knowledge check. The specific Knowledge stat depends on the creature type - for example, Knowledge (religion) for undead. Wisdom is used by this class for spellcasting. Librarian (homebrew class): This librarian, unlike the archivist, is an arcane caster using the sorcerer/wizard spell list, though they do also rely on a spellbook like a wizard. The librarian can research three “secret circles,” learning a secret from one of the circles at six different levels - no secret can be learned twice. Librarians have high knowledge, and can adapt to most situations. Intelligence is used by this class for spellcasting.

D&D 5e Libraries Illuminated Compendium (DM’s Guild): This is more focused on libraries itself than on a librarian character, but it does have helpful resources for generating your own libraries, along with three character backgrounds for NPCs (librarian, scribe, and bookbinder). Some of this information could be used to create an adventurer in another class who works for/used to work for a library. The Knight Librarians - Fighter Subclass (DM’s Guild): This subclass allows a fighter to become a “literary warrior” devoted to the spread of knowledge, gaining limited divine abilities alongside their physical talents. The Librarian: An Investigative Class for D&D 5e (DM’s Guild): This homebrew class is Lovecraftian inspired. A librarian follows tales of monstrous beasts and hidden cities, pursuing the truth behind legend and defending the world from ancient threats.

Pathfinder Librarian (homebrew class): This is one of multiple examples of a homebrew Librarian in Pathfinder 1st Edition. This specific librarian is described by its creator as “essentially a wizard who is limited to spells from the school of divination.” A librarian is dedicated to generate information and content for the Portable Library, working on their dissertation as they level, and they can use the Portable Library to travel to any library in the multiverse. Studious Librarian (bard archetype): This archetype takes the existing bard class and replaces some of the class features to fit a bard that has spent time studying in a library. Some of these new features include Scribe Scroll as a bonus feat (replacing distraction) and the ability to use scrolls and spellbooks to cast bard, sorcerer/wizard, or witch spells as if they were known bard spells (replacing suggestion and jack-of-all trades).

Librarian Note: this is NOT an exhaustive list, especially for the homebrew, and I have not playtested these options. Please do your own research, and always talk with your DM/GM before using any of these options in your next game.

Lunchbucket is not back.

Someone stole her own creative works and is trying to pass them off as their own for likes and comments so they can feel the high of positive attention while being as asshole. Because she deleted her account, they were able to make a new account under her name.

It’s made very mad as you can tell. And I asked lunchbucket before answering this ask, because I know now even more people will flock to these fics, but she did ask me to let people know whoever is doing this is not her.

Someone out there is really trying to ruin fandom for everyone. 💔

How do you decide what you're going to read next?

Also, or connected, do you organize like docs or spreadsheets as far as what you have read and going to?

Hello friend! And thanks for the fun question, I love these.

So when I'm trying to decide what fic to read, I go to my "marked for later" tab on AO3 and my brain looks like this trying to decide.

I have this problem where, if I get INTO a fic (which happens more often than not) I can't do ANYTHING until that fic is done. Like, will be reading it while on a call for work. This is also why I tend to disappear for a while because I'm only posting when I'm not reading a long fic or book.

So, I'm either purposely looking for a short fic (because it's the evening and sleep is unfortunately important) or a long fic (before I'm about to hop on a plane).

Personally, I prefer fics that are GENERALLY happy or uplifting. (My sincere apologies to anyone looking for MCD fics here but I am not that strong of heart). I also have a special fondness for modern AU get-togethers. And, once I find a fic I like, I tend to binge ALL of that author's works (a strategy I know many do, and one I highly encourage people to copy).

And no, there are no spreadsheets. If I want to read a fic I "Mark For Later" and if I like a fic, I will then "Bookmark" it and add my own tags so I can find it later. When someone sends in an ask, I just search my bookmarks ( I have almost 700) and then I search AO3.

So when I joined fandom it seemed like the most popular emotion in fics, was jealousy.

LOTs of readers were looking for jealousy between Remus and Sirius in their fics.

Over time it seems like the tide changed and now the most requested emotion is angst. (It was always popular but it's now by far the most requested type of fic).

Just curious: did anyone else notice this trend? And what do we think the next trend will be?

What’s the timeline of Dolores and Shulkers relationship? When do they actually get comfy with eachother?

This was a very funny ask to get in the middle of the night (for me) for no reason.

But anyways yahhh!! To answer your question to the best of my extent.

Dolores and Montana would’ve at least met a little *before* the series takes place? Kind of like the implied time where Tombstone was figuring out who was messing/stopping his crooks and goons.

So, what was essentially Peter Parker’s summer break (beginning of it) would be where Dolores and Montana would’ve met and then their relationship would gradually start off.

It’s also a slow burn and there’s lots of time gaps (mainly six months-ish?) because Montana/Shocker is getting ARRESTED??? like expectedly a lot? It also depends on whenever Tombstone bails him out. And she would either not know for like most of it, or would eventually know but would refrain from breaking him out by just… “Shadow Traveling” him out of there.

I can’t give like a proper answer of when they “get together” but most of the drawing that I do make of them just more comfortably with each other is probably like 5-7 (9 at longest?) years in the future (by some slim chance) because holy hell. I think these two have like a LOT of flaws both together and individually that they’d have to figure out.
