The hidden beach of Ammudi, Libyan Sea

I arrived into this beautiful secret beach in the South of Crete, which faces the Libyan sea. While laying fully naked in this beautiful beach, I couldn’t help thinking how lucky I was compared to the Libyan people located just a few hundred miles South to the Island of Crete.

civil war is still waging in what was once a land ruled by Kadafi. It is a common to mistakenly blame ISIS on what is happening in several countries in the Middle East. However, ISIS among with other militias are simply filling the gap created after the ‘Arab Spring’, where several dictators were overthrown by their own people, an act which started a brutal civil war, one which still takes place in Libyan.

One of the major implications of this civil war is the downfall in oil production. The people of Libya, once considered to be one of OPAC’s biggest oil producers until 2014, were and still are very much depended in the profits coming from selling Libyan Crude oil to the global market.

The civil war in Libya caused it to loose its share on the global market, and while militias took control on some of the oil production in the eastern part of Libya, a new challenge was created for them - and it was to overcome the international sanctions and find a way to blend Libyan oil in international trade before it hits global markets.

ISIS and other militias sold thousand of litters of petroleum products to European markets throughout the past three years. The same networks used for smuggling oil into Europe, are now being used to smuggle people from Africa to Europe. Refugees of the Syrian war sit on the same boat with people coming from African other African nations, all of them are looking for a fresh start and a better life in Europe.

So as I sit naked at that beach, I can’t help to think how lucky I am to be born in Israel, a country with troubles of its own, and yet here I am on my holiday vacation, drinking beers and looking for the next smuggling boat to arrive off the shores of Crete with the next shipment of a group of people looking for a better life.
