Fuck it, we ball. Cana x Lisanna headcanons.
Cana starts going on missions with the Strauss siblings more often and suddenly finds herself really connecting with Lisanna.
Despite her outwardly confident demeanor, Cana has a lot of insecurities regarding her strength as a mage and her self-worth (see Tenrou island arc). Lisanna is, on the one hand, sensitive enough to comfort her and quietly support her when she needs it. On the other, she is still a Strauss, she's down for some mischief and good fun and she has no problem matching Cana's energy (unlike, for example, Lucy who's a bit more reserved and proper).
Cana falls first. She doesn't act on it, because when it's not casual flirting, when she realises it's a genuine crush, her insecurities kick in full force. She doesn't think she's good enough for Lisanna. She doesn't think her feelings are reciprocated. She thinks Elf an and Mira miiiigth kill her when they go into overprotective sibling mode.
It took her 10 years to tell Gildarts she's his daughter. There is no way she's confessing to her crush any time soon. She pushes it down. This is just a little crush and it's not worth ruining her friendship with the entire Strauss family over.
Lisanna notices the change, obviously, but she doesn't know what it's about. She just realizes that Cana has become more withdrawn and she doesn't like it. They've been so close lately, and Lisanna has really enjoyed spending time with her, and— ooooh.
So now Lisanna knows she has feelings for Cana. And unlike Cana, her flavour trauma is more about 'seize the moment, because you might not have another chance'.
So she goes aaaall in. Flirting x100, all in Cana's personal space, taking every opportunity to spend time together. And Cana, being a useless lesbian, naturally believes there is nooooo way it's romantic and is just dying on the inside trying to push her feelings down. Which is becoming harder by the day as Lisanna grows more agitated by (what she think is) Cana not picking up on her flirting, and turning it up to eleven... twelve... thirteen...
(Mira knows what's happening the entire time, because she's not a dumbass, and is kind of just watching the whole trainwreck with mild amusement. Elfman has no clue.)
