Happy mid-week!

It’s the third official week of me taking Ballet classes. And OMG do my feet ache. Never in my life have my feet been so sore. Then again I am so grateful for that. It’s a sign that I’m learning and growing. I didn’t think dancing to “Romeo and Juliet,” “Giselle,” and “the Nutcracker” would renew me in a new and different way. Pushing my artistic boundaries to places I haven’t been.

To be honest with you, I was nervous to start ballet. It was something that intimidated me. Scared me. The amount of dedication and time takes a toll and I didn’t know if I could do this. Coming from a past of self-taught hip hop and musical theatre didn’t really help me in terms of movement. Plus the horror stories freaked me out. Then I remembered other dancers who have come before me. Misty Copeland defied odds by becoming the first African American principal dancer for The American Ballet Theatre. Then there’s Darcy Bussell whose work at the Royal Ballet proved that an athletic build could portray a lyricism no one had seen before. These people brought their authenticity and made the art form what it is today. In other words these people broke the mold. And that thought reassures me. It gives me the faith and inspiration I need to keep going. 

This the one art that hurts me but keep doing it. It’s like a boyfriend that I keep running back to because it “hurts so good.” Except every time I do I turn harder and faster. It appears flawless but little do people know how long it took to make seem that way. That one day I’ll crush “Swan Lake” like Mars crushes “The Kill.” 

ANYWAYS Camp Mars 2017 tickets come next week! YAY! It’s safe to say that we have been waiting for  this moment FOREVER. Yes Jared I know you love to climb mountains, make movies, and create music but we need to have our quality family time. It’s basically our holiday season hahaha. 

I hope ya’ll have a great day. Believe in yourself. The life you daydream about is possible. The blood, sweat, and tears are worth it. Mars proved that to me three years ago and continue to do so. I hope they continue to do the same for you too.
