I am going to be moving in a couple of months and I am in the process of trying to find a place to live. It's actually a lot harder than I thought it would be and it's made harder by two things 1. Cost and 2. Not being in the city I'm moving to. Lets start with issue 1. Costs. I'm moving on my own and it is expensive! I've saved quite a bit over the past few years but I think I'm still in the student mindset and find it hard to justify spending over 700$ a month, for a bachelor/studio, just on rent (utilities would be extra). I want to be somewhere that's convenient to get groceries, get to school and get out and about, but with that comes higher cost. I just wish I could find someone to live with. I can essentially cut my rent cost in half if I find someone to live with. But how do you do that? Onto problem 2. Not being in the city I'm moving to. Although I know a few people who live there, they're already set up and not looking for roommates. They've even asked people they know and no one seems to be moving anywhere. Kijiji and online sites seem a little sketchy to me, so I don't really want to go that route either. So I guess I'll be living solo for the first little while. Then I hope to meet someone in my program and we can split something. The second problem with not being in the same city is going to see places. Descriptions are very vague and pictures limited so if I'm interested in a place I have to take a day off work, drive to this other city and check out the places. It's a lot of work and very time consuming! One thing that is exciting though is that I've found a few yoga studios and fitness centres that are by donation, or with student discounts. So hopefully ill have time to take advantage of that! Send me any moving or apartment hunting tips you have, I'm sure there are tons of great ideas out there. <3
