Unpopular opinion.
The job market sucks. <—- period.
So if you have a comment on how your buddy or grandkid doesn’t have a decent paying job, or a job at all, I have a challenge to put forth to you. Instead of telling them they are worthless or not trying hard enough, offer to get them an interview. It doesn’t even have to be your place of work, just an interview anywhere you think is appropriate. As you say so yourself, it can’t be that difficult. I can almost guarantee that if you land an interview for that person, they will go to it.
Help a friend out, use your years of professional experience, instead of just pointing out they are struggling.
