Sometimes you make something that is just so cool inside and out. One of our writers, Kali, made a lower power artifact called the Dragonsong, that was a light crossbow that doubled as a lute. It had a +1 attack\damage bonus and the Melody of Life feature.
So, Robbie took that and dialed it up a few notches. We really, really hope to get an illustration of this one very soon!
Dragonsong
Weapon (crossbow, light), artifact (requires attunement)
“This light crossbow is carved from a pale dragon bone, polished to a perfect ivory shine. It also doubles as a lute and has a dragon etched into it. The dragon's form twists its way up the handle, around the weapon and the bolt fires from its mouth.”
This weapon also functions as an instrument, and while holding it you gain a +3 bonus to the spell save DC of your bard spells. Additionally, if you use this weapon to deal damage to a creature last round, you have a +3 bonus to your spell attack rolls.
Dragon’s Duet. Whenever you successfully hit a creature with a spell attack, or if a creature fails a saving throw against one of your spells, you may choose to make a ranged attack with this magic weapon. Or you may choose to give an ally you can see within 60 feet of you, advantage on their next attack roll, and they can spend their reaction to immediately make an attack against a creature of their choice.
Melody of Life. Your Bardic Inspiration die increases by one dice size. If your Bardic Inspiration die is a d12, you may add another d4 to it. Mastercraft Weapon. Add an additional half of your proficiency bonus (rounded down) to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
