Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) Market
Light detection and Ranging (LiDAR), is an advanced remote sensing system that is used to detect, identify, and create a precise 3-D virtual image of an object. LiDAR is used to create 3D and 2D images with the help of a high-intensity laser tool, micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) scanner and a GPS trans-receiver.
LiDAR is used in a wide range of applications including seismology, geomatics, airborne laser swath mapping, atmospheric physics, archaeology, geomorphology and others.
LiDAR comprises of micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) scanner that provides high signal to background ratio under high operability. With these capabilities, LiDAR provides accurate information even with obstructions including wall, bridges, tunnels and others. LiDAR in the geospatial industry is used to collect data in dark regions and can be operated in any weather conditions.
“Rising Demand for LiDAR from UAVs, Engineering, and Construction Applications Will Facilitate Growth of the Market”
Ground-based LiDARs are widely deployed across a range of applications, including unmanned aerial vehicle (UAVs), advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), meteorology, and others. With the increasing growth of these applications, market demand for LiDAR would also rise accordingly. In the construction industry, LiDAR is highly used to create an exact 3D replica of the building and cities without hindrance.
Major companies in this market are focused on developing and launching an advanced LiDAR system for construction applications. For instance, in April, 2018, Trimble Inc. launched advanced new green beam lasers – the spectra precision LT52G and LT58G. These devices offer enhanced characteristics in terms of pixel density, brightness, versatility, and others.
“Major Players including the Sick AG, Hexagon AB and Others are Aiming towards Enhancing Their LiDAR Business Unit”
Sick AG, a German-based company, is a manufacturer of advanced sensors and related solutions for industrial applications. Under their wide product portfolio, the company provides 3D LiDAR sensors, 3D laser scanners, photoelectric sensors, safety switches, encoders and others. Currently, the company is focused on developing advanced 4D LiDAR sensors that would be served across a wide range of industries including factory automation, logistics automation and process automation.
