Stuck with low light/power? Here are the steps you need, in order, to get the most out of your gameplay.
Before anything, go get your daily/weekly bounties. Then you can start:
1. Heroic Story Mission (Daily/Weekly)
2. Gambit (Daily/Weekly)
3. Strikes (Daily/Weekly)
4. Ikora’s Weekly Challenge. By this point you should have completed enough bounties (since you’ll have been completing several at the same time) to get your powerful engram.
5. Power Spider Bounty
7. Clan XP Engram. By this point you should have completed enough of Hawthorn’s bounties but if not, just grind a little more— it’s worth it!
8. Nightfall Strike Completion. Set your 5-of-Cards at the lowest difficulty. Set your elemental damage for whichever burn is least used by the enemies, especially not used by the boss (unless it’s Protheon, Modular Mind which uses all three types). It’s dangerous to go alone, bring a friend.
9. Nightfall Strike Score Challenge. You’re going to want a full Fireteam for this one. Using your 5-of-Cards, set your difficulty up to 2.25x. Your first modifier should be Match Game which gives you the highest point score. Next on the list should be Blackout which gives you the second most highest point score. The next modifier can be anything you want but if you’re trying to get the best score possible, use Extinguish for a 30% boost. However, if your entire Fireteam dies, you’ll all get sent back into orbit and you’ll have to start from scratch. If you don’t want to risk it, then I suggest that you use Iron as your modifier instead. Whatever you decide, you and your Fireteam will need to clear over 100,000 points and you’re on a timer so hustle.
10. Petra Venj. Her weekly bounties give you powerful engrams but they take up the most time. Her daily bounties are easy to do and usually include several patrols and a lost sector.
11. Ascendant Challenge. You’re already in the Dreaming City so why not have a go? If you get bored while completing Petra’s bounties, you can just go over to the portal (which changes location weekly), drink your Tincture of Queensfoil, and away you go!
12. Last Wish Raid. Good luck.

Light in the Caves
The darkness in the caves is intense and makes adventuring hard. Luckily the darkness can be pushed back with a variety of light sources, torches and special gem equipment help by producing light. Torches are cheap quick ways to light up the caves, with different types that change how long they last and how bright they are. Torches also are able to be purchased at the adventurer shop. Equipment is much rarer found in the cave and requires the use of an equipment slot, but unlike torches they aren’t temporary.
There are 4 levels of light in the caves, as shown above.
In the first picture there is no light source active, making it very dark.The default lighting in the cave, and what you drop to when torches burn out.
The next picture is at the 2nd level, using a basic torch to get there. Its a small upgrade but gives that extra needed vision to avoid cave-ins and pits.
On the third picture we used a blazing torch, these don’t stay active for long, but it gives a lot of light. This level really increases your vision, giving you a lot of warning and saves you from having to go into every small place to have to see inside.
The final best light can’t be obtained through consumables but only equipment found deep in the cave. This level is very bright to where the darkness no longer poses much of a problem, only the bravest and luckiest of adventurers can hope to get to this.
Destiny: Rise of Iron (How to level up efficiently)
So I’ve seen a few guides on how to level up in RoI and while many of them do tell you the basics, they leave out details, like exactly when to decrypt certain engrams and how to level up certain gear. As such, I’m going to give a more detailed explanation on how to hit the different tiers, or more specifically the grind to get raid ready.
So what are the different tiers? They are: 0-340 (Max level Blues can decrypt as)
340-365 (Max level Purples can decrypt as)
365-385
0-340 is easy enough, Blue engrams will decrypt at a MAX of 340, so before this point, using any legendary or exotic engrams isn’t worth it. Just play strikes or whatever to get high enough.
340-365 is where the grind starts but you can give yourself a boost. The gear you can buy with legendary marks, and most of he weapon/armour/artifact giving quests give you gear at 350, focus on them. After that point you want to focus on the new Sepiks Perfected strike at 320 light and the Siva crisis Heroic playlist at 350. Both of these will drop you blue rewards that aren’t encrypted when you beat the boss and these can drop up to 365. The plus side of the strike playlist over the Sepiks strike is that you’ll increase your vanguard and faction rep faster with the consecutive strikes boost and any vanguard rep boosters you can activate. It’s worth noting you can also do the Prison of Elders as completing the book will give you gear up to 365 as well. Don’t forget your 3 of coins during all these. BE WARNED some strikes such as the new Phogoth strike & the old Archon Priest will drop last year gear at around 250. If you see people leaving on that strike, that’s probably why.
So, you’re grinding out playlists, occasionally getting urchin errors, but you’ve hit a snag, you’ve got one piece of armour/weapon that’s dragging your entire light level down and getting that item to drop is random, so the rewards you’re getting aren’t giving you much of a boost, NOW you decrypt a purple of that type. If your boots are dragging you down by enough light to keep you down a a full light level, decrypt some boots. Preferably legendary but exotics will do.
So that’s all fine and well, but you can have legendary & exotic engrams for all but 2 items. The ghost & artifact. The ghost can drop from strikes and you can get them from faction rank up packages. Artifacts however, are more commonly found inside other engrams and wasting other purples might not be worth it, so how do you get a 365 artifact?... Eris. When leveling up with her she almost always give you an artifact so head over to the court, if you’re lucky she’ll give you a quest line with 3 steps giving 250, 500 & 750 Crota’s Bane rep getting you halfway to leveling up. Runes also boost rep by 25, 50 & 100 relative to the rune difficulty.
So now after doing all that, you’re making your way to 365 and becoming raid ready. This is the max legendary engrams will decrypt and is why we wanted to use them now and save our exotics
365-385 So to get to the new current max light level, the ways to get higher than 365 are: leveling up with factions,PvP reward drops (If it’s the same as before you’ll be able to get gear that’s up to 5 levels lower than the max light level, so 380) Nightfalls, Exotic engrams, and other end game activities such as Trials, Iron Banner, The Raid, and certain levels of the Archon’s Forge.
