The Bristol 407 GTZ Zagato was commissioned by Anthony Crook, a major Bristol dealer and later owner of the company, intended as a lighter, more performance-oriented version of the standard Bristol 407. Powered by a 5.1-litre Chrysler V8, it was presented on the Zagato stand at the 1961 Earls Court Motor Show. The problem was the lightweight Zagato body with the weighty American V8, making the car significantly nose-heavy, eventually leading to the project being abandoned in 1962
