I mean is there any canon evidence proving that they can own an elf? I don’t disagree with your assessment of muggleborns but this point seems weak because there seems to be no proof.

Hermione literally goes around trying to trick house-elves into accepting freedom without even asking them. If Hermione can manage to give them their freedom, that means she has power over them as part of the dominant system. She has the power to grant freedom, therefore she has the power to make decisions about their lives, so it's logical to think that, had she wanted to, she could have had a house-elf. Let's not forget that house-elves serve witches and wizards regardless of blood status; if it weren’t possible for a Muggle-born to own a house-elf, they wouldn’t serve them or accept orders from them, even if they weren’t their direct masters. I mean, it’s basic logic.

hal is truly such a funny man because he always seems to be simultaneously over-confident in his ability to be able to "win carol over" while being (mostly) under-confident in his current standing with carol and how much she cares about him like "i am sure she's not that into me now but i will absolutely convince her to be more into me" and that's why he's a green lantern i guess
