Likeastore Search Just Got Better

Last few weeks we worked really hard to bring new and better search. After we switched the technology and released browser extensions for all major browsers, search became the most useful function of Likeastore application.

Today, we combined few services into one. What's so cool about that?

Not only your likes

Previously we allowed search only by your own likes. But after we've introduced collections and feeds, we came up with simple thought:

"My feed is so interesting and full of relevant information, why don't we use that information for search?".

Indeed, why to limit the search with only data you own, let's build the community to help each other for better search results.

Search your feed

From today, while you searching you will see both results from own favorites and favorites of other users from feed. The results were impressive.

This is also one of the encouraging point to follow the best collections and share own collections.

Collections suggestion

Also, while you search you will see some relevant collections we suggest to follow.

By following collections, you will make your feed more interesting and search results better.

For now, improved search is available for search extensions. If you have installed the extension earlier, it should be updated automatically. For Safari users, please visit this link and download it manually.

The search on site will be updated in next few days.

Search is Back and Improved!

As you might remember, last weekend we had downtime for several services including "Search". Today I'm happy to announce that "Search" have been fully restored.

We've completely re-implemented it, so now searching became much faster and really accurate. I would encourage you to try and let me know what you think. Some fine tunings will be applied based on your feedback.

With "Basic Search" being re-enabled we are moving further to "Advanced Search" features that will appear in Pro accounts. It's not too late to be added to our Pro subscribers list, please click on the button below.

Besides, we are continue to work for much better search experience and will announce it really soon!

Outage Report

Some of you might noticed problems with collection of new data. Last Friday we had issue that forced us to temporary stop few of our services - Collector, Pulse and Search (detailed explanation below).

We are sorry it happened and do our best to do not allow to happen it again.

Friday near 6.00 PM GMT we've noticed slowdown of our services. Almost all requests to application ended up with HTTP 504 and it was not possible to access neither dashboard nor search. Quick health check showed that our MongoDB is under heavy load and experiencing high "Locked" percentage (>120 %) that basically paralyzed the service.

Database been hit really hard, due to a lot of new writes to collection that contains likes. The collection already contained few big indexes, including full-text one, each write caused recalculations that immediately affected performance.

As first action to unblock web application was stop of Collector, Pulse and Search services to reduce load to database. So, the application continued to work, you could access your likes, feed and collections but without access to new data.

After emergency actions, we have both optimized MongoDB part (by reducing number of indexes) and code to reduce number of database writes. After redeploy it showed that DB loading is on acceptable level and application experience is fine.

The likes collection is already huge, full text index turns to be bottleneck, so we had to be eliminate it. Search remains disabled, we will fix it very soon.

We are continue to both improve our code and infrastructure, so it would fit current load.

Free social icons pack

Good news from Likeastore! We decided to open-source social icons pack that we use inside application.

Too much networks on the screen?

Previously left sidebar was showing full list of social networks our service provides to the customers. But from now it's much easier to organize your dashboard and information - Likeastore navigation menu shows only enabled networks. Clicking the button will move user to the settings page where she can organize the list of services.

Turning it off..

Another important users proposal and application update concerns switching off networks. This means that all favorites from deleted services will be automatically removed from dashboard, so any annoying information won't be displayed here no more. We hope this will also improve your experience of using our service.
