it was time like this when yuliya thought if her parents would be proud of her. she still remembered the light on her father’s eyes when her powers have awakened --- the way he hugged her and spun holding her, both of them laughing. the pride on her mother’s voice, saying that yuliya was going to be a war hero like her. ilya was too young to understand at the time, but she knew he was also happy for her. yuliya only wanted that the same happened to him. things would have been so much more bearable if he was at the little palace with her. withing two years, yuliya lost all of her family --- both parents to a volcra, probably, as the one in front of her, and a brother. she tried so much to reach to him, to say how much she missed him. leyla was the living proof of that. she cheered with her best friend when little havva arrived --- but she envied the aksinya sister. how much she daydreamed about ilya arriving at the gates of the little palace. but with that, yuliya learned that hope is a dangerous thing.
but that was on the past. she never saw ilya again, but yuliya knew he was alive. it was an older sister talent, as she called it. but her job with the volcra was keeping her away from thinking too much about her family, thankfully. it was excruciating how it hurt to think about them --- but, at least, yuliya found a family within the friends she made. they made that feeling more tolerable when she was with them. she sighed, looking at the corpse in front of her. the darkling said a first army captain was coming to see what she managed to discover, and while she was happy to share her thoughts, yuliya was sightly annoyed too. she knew the darkling didn’t trust her --- he was a fool if he never eard talking bad things about him --- but how an otkazat’sya could help her ?
when the guard announced the captain, yuliya got up from her chair with grace, but stopped dead on her tracks and she looked at the man’s face. he looked so much like father, and she felt like she was seeing a ghost. it physically hurt to look at him. “ i... i’m the healer who coordinates the research. i hope i can answer the first army’s questions. ” her smile was too forced, but how could she stay at the same room as someone that looked exactly the same as nikolai braginsky ? “ i’m yuliya braginskaya, it’s a pleasure to meet you. ”
