The influential third edition of "Frankenstein" from 1831 is the one that modern readers are familiar with, containing Mary Shelley's own revisions and introduction, which helped cement her fame as the book's creator (earlier editions had been printed anonymously and when the book first came out in 1818 it was assumed by many to have been written by her husband Percy Shelley).
