do you have a favorite cursed fact about butterflies/moths? mine is that some species, like luna moths, eat all the food they'll ever eat as caterpillars, so they don't even have the anatomy to eat or drink as adult moths
for butterflies and moths that actually DO have mouthparts, they often need to supplement their nectar diet with necessary minerals that simply don’t occur in flowers! this is why sometimes you’ll walk by a riverbank and just see a dozen or so butterflies of various species just probing around in the mud.
THEY CRAVE THAT MINERAL.
both butterflies and moths also do this with more noxious substances than mud, including but not limited to: urine, feces, tears, blood, and rotting flesh.
if you shake hands with a butterfly, maybe make sure you wash up real well afterwards.
