Palawan Limestones

The limestone formations of Palawan , Philippines, are among the most stunning natural wonders in the world. These ancient rocks, shaped by millions of years of geological activity, create breathtaking landscapes that define Palawan’s unique beauty.

Palawan’s limestone formations date back 250 million years , originating from coral reefs and marine sediments that were compressed and uplifted over time. The limestones have been eroded by water and wind, creating the dramatic karst topography that Palawan is famous for—characterized by jagged cliffs, sinkholes, and caves.

Skałka z Nyżą (The rock with the niche) is located in the central part of the Racławka Valley nature reserve by the tourist route near the Racławka stream. It is built of coarse-grained stromatoporoid limestone from the turn of Devonian and Carboniferous, making the outcrop the oldest rock in the area, dominated by the younger, Jurassic limestones. The name of the rock comes from the shallow recess located in it, made by the Racławka stream.
