Do you like to talk about your ideas with other people before you start writing? Usually no. I need to let my id write the first draft without remembering that another human might eventually interact with what I'm writing or I psych myself out lol. During/after though, yes!!

I probably wouldn't write about needles, although to be fair I've only tried it irl once. I like reading about it though :)
