More Death Note thoughts... everyone says Light killing Lind L Tailor was a mistake, but what about how L turned it into what must've effectively been a PR catastrophe for the anti-Kira side? Like, to us Light's actions look reckless because we know the whole story, sure, but imagine if you were just a passing Kanto resident seeing all that. L takes over the broadcast after Kira appears to have ruthlessly murdered a detective who was hunting him - and announces that he is the real L, and the previous guy was in fact a criminal sentenced to death. Then he challenges Kira again, and lives. What's the most logical conclusion for a random audience member to draw from this?
It's that Kira really does have the supernatural power to judge the wicked. From the outside, it looks like Kira unerringly killed the guilty man - live in real time! - and spared the allegedly ahem innocent one, with no possible way to have known by any normal means that Lind L Tailor wasn't the real L. L did Light the biggest PR favour imaginable by taking that line. If instead he'd said something like "The man you just killed was an innocent member of my staff who courageously volunteered to stand as my body double, and you murdered him!" he could've cut Kira's public reputation off at the knees in one sentence, rather than making him look like he really does have the powers of a god on a public broadcast. (And quite possibly he could've at least given Light a bit of a moral headache as well, rather than effectively validating him retroactively by claiming to have fed him someone whom Kira would've condemned anyway.) If Light fucked up there, I feel like L definitely did too.
And I still have my doubts that Lind L Tailor even was a death-row inmate, but that's another post...
I genuinely just think they'd be " GREAT " cellmates.
Get L Lawliet, Mikami, Beyond Birthday and Lind L Tailor in a room together and see what happens
Is it obvious I have a type in favorite characters
Hot and Cold
Summary - Light is always hot. L is always cold. Can anyone guess what happens when we put those two people in the same bed?
A/N - I saw some fanart of this and immediately came here to write it out of my system. Note no NSFW in this one. Enjoy!
Pairing - Light x L (Ryuzaki)
Warnings - Cussing, repressed feelings, slight angst?
Words - 1446

Light is hot.
Yes, of course this applies in the sense that he is physically attractive because he is, very well in fact, a very handsome man; And yes this applies to the sense that when there is any light source it is typically accompanied with heat, but the case in which is currently being described is that his body is physically warm. All the time.
Whether it be because his mind is constantly racing to figure out Ryuzaki's real identity, his hidden hot temperament, or the stress of holding back a secret as big as being Kira, the fact of the matter is that he runs hot.
This wasn't much of a problem for him, especially before he became Kira. He would just wear one layer of clothes less than everyone else, sleep in lighter clothing (if any clothing at all (he's just being practical)) or have a bottle of ice cold water at all times. It is generally very manageable.
That was until he found himself handcuffed to Ryuzaki.
Light would very quickly find out that Ryuzaki is extremely cold; Not only in the sense that he is very blunt and straightforward but in the sense that he is physically always freezing.
It was subtle at first, the way Ryuzaki held his hands together and put one foot over the other when sitting, but the more Light thought about it the more it made sense. Ryuzaki was so skinny and all he ate was sugar; surely he was not getting nearly enough nutrients to keep his body temperature at what is considered normal. The man didn't even wear shoes for Christ's sake! In addition to that, he was pale as a ghost. Without the warmth of the sun to tan his skin to what would be healthier looking, he looked physically cold and almost anemic.
Ryuzaki would never admit to any of these feelings though. While Light could say he was hot and sound masculine, being cold felt much more vulnerable and weak.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter, especially when a snowman is handcuffed to a furnace.
This brings Light to a very familiar place. Ever since they've been handcuffed together, there was no way to sleep in separate beds and make it through the night comfortably. The two had compromised to stay in bed but leave a considerable space between them to “maintain professionalism”.
The option to “maintain professionalism” was thrown out the window when Ryuzaki had let it slip that there were no cameras in the room.
Well, it hadent really “slipped”. It wasn't an accident what he had said, it was a strategic statement, deliberately letting Light know that whatever happened or was said in that room would be between him and Ryuzaki, no one elce…
Or maybe it was just a lie to make Light comfortable should he want to say something in the confidentiality of the detective
He didn't know
Nor did he care
He wasn't stupid
He wouldn't let Ryuzaki get to him
He wouldn't let anything slip out– and oh my got he began sweating again in that damn hot room.
Ryuzaki had insisted they sleep with the window closed but Light couldn't handle it anymore.
As quietly and softly as he could, he slowly got up from the bed and tried to make it for the window. Tiptowing and hearing the chain chinkle through the night as he tried his best to reach the latch.
Alas it was not enough. Ryuzaki began to stir awake, bundling closer into the sheets. Maybe he was never asleep at all, Light wouldn't be able to know for sure, but what he did know is that Ryuzaki was 100% awake right now, evident by his muttering.
“...Mmm…” he grumbled out, muffled by the pillow “…what are you doing…”
Light cleared his throat “I…I just need to open the window a bit”, he said softly.
He heard shuffling in the dark, no doubt due to Ryuzaki turning towards Light.
“... No…it's already too cold, if you open the window there will be an 87% chance we will get sick” Ryuzaki fought back.
Light pushed back a scoff and let it come out as a light laugh “Not if I open it about a quarter of an inch…Come on Ryuzaki I can’t sleep in this heat…”
And Light would be right. It was August in Japan, it was hot, humid, with no air flow. He knew if he opened the window just a little, it would be enough to cool him down.
Light heard a muffled groan but there were no protests, so he proceeded to open the window, no more than the quarter of an inch he had promised Ryuzaki.
The relief was instantaneous. The cool air of the night floated in and relaxed Light instantly, and he had almost forgotten the angering thoughts that heated him in the first place. He let out a relieved sigh before getting back in the bed with Ryuzaki.
As time went on, he felt the sweet release of sleep drift towards him. Gosh, he had really been torturing himself by keeping the window closed all this time…he just couldn't wait to take his customary cold shower in the morning…
Just as he was about to sleep, he felt a jerky movement along with a clanking sound beside him wake him up.
The jerky movement was not just a one time thing. No, in fact it was continuous and getting stronger, almost like something, someone was shivering right next to him. Ryuzaki was shivering so hard one would think he was sleeping in snow.
Light couldn't believe his eyes, he was just about melting 10 minutes ago and now Ryuzaki was shivering, teeth chattering as if these were his last moments.
Light couldn't sleep with this noise next to him, absolutely not.
Just as he was about to rudely wake up Ryuzaki, there was a weight thrusted atop him.
Frozen in shock, Light could do nothing but stay still and let Ryuzaki get comfortable atop him.
His mind was screaming at him to throw Ryuzaki off and insult him for even touching him, but his body that was burning earlier, gladly invited the cool touch of Ryuzaki’s fingers on his arm.
Light drifted in and out of sleep before his mind was definitely awake now. This action implied so many things…
If Ryuzaki is so comfortable that he will subconsciously cuddle…then there truly must not be a camera…that or the camera is limited to Ryuzaki’s knowledge only and he still has the upper hand in the scenario…the only difference is is that nobody else in the investigation team would see what happens in the room unless its Ryuzaki’s will…
Additionally, this confirms that at least physically, Ryuzaki is drawn to Light and his heat lamp of a body…knowing this might be advantageous in the future…
Finally…should this all be a ruse and L is actually awake doing all this…then it is a test…see if the sweet good Light would reject a friend in need or welcome them with open arms…
Light knew what the clear, non Kira answer was.
Currently, Ryuzaki was cuddled next to Light who was laying on his back. Ryuzaki’s arm was draped over his clothed midriff, but Light could feel his cold skin through the layers of clothing.
Gently, Light snuck an arm around L’s side, under his shirt, and around his waste, pulling him closer.
Light thought to himself, ‘This is exactly what the old Light would do…not to mention this doubles as a test for him…if he's really awake there is no way he would let me do this…’
Ryuzaki was now full on, head on Light’s chest, arm around his stomach, and amidst all the moving, smuggled his left leg over Light’s right, all the while Light’s hot skin warmed up Ryuzaki’s back.
Surely Ryuzaki was just reacting to the newfound body heat…right?
Light did not mind, for he too found the sensation of Ryuzaki’s skin on skin contact to be pleasant. He felt himself cooling down much more efficiently than when he had opened the window…
Perhaps this would be a new, good, mutually beneficial engagement, if not purely to gain more information on each other…
Light couldn't tell if Ryuzaki was awake or if this was all a lie, but he could not deny the physical relief he felt when Ryuzaki’s hand, while getting comfortable, went under his shirt and was touching the bare, scorching skin of his stomach.
For once, Light gave into what the body wants, and let himself drift to sleep, the most comfortable he's been in a long time…

A/N: should I make a post cuddle, wake up scene? lmk
I don't know if you've covered this before, but what were the initial reactions of the Wammy kids to Kira's first appearance in Death Note 2.0? As in, what were they thinking when Kira first rose to prominence. Love your art!
TL;DR L has a deduction/criminology club at Wammy’s “The Justus Society” (I’m so sorry for the name), which Mello, Matt, Near and some other kids are members in. The news about the killings spread through newspaper at Wammy’s. The Justus Society kids immediately taste blood and start theorising. Matt discovers the Lind L Tailor broadcast and it spreads like wildfire among the students. Roger is furious, the kids unstoppable.
Read the long answer to this on my Notion or on AO3!
Here’s some art:
One thing I adore in the jdrama is that Lind L Tailor DOES speak in English, the same speech as the original, L just dubs over it. That would be like if in the original Yoshio Anderson turned out to be L
