Kurashi only realised what was going on when it was already too late to stop it.
He never missed any of Linda’s performances again. He went on the blond’s concerts every time, no matter what; no matter that afterwards, the singer would usually invite someone else home with him, or not return at all; no matter how much seeing the blond flirt with everyone in sight made the raven-haired boy’s heart twist and ache.
We can sleep together and spend time together, and you can live here as long as you want... but don’t expect anything else from me, alright?
Kurashi didn’t. And neither did he let the blond know how much these few words hurt him; back then, he only smiled the sweet smile he knew Linda liked on him, and nodded, thanking the singer for giving him a place to stay.
He never once let Linda know his heart bled every time the other held anyone else in his arms.
And neither did he as much as change his expression when he saw the singer walk out from the stage, after the finished performance this evening. He smiled at Linda, ignoring the girl that almost immediately latched herself on the blond’s arm.
Her scream the moment later, he did not ignore.
Kurashi still didn’t know how the man got there, to the special place backstage, reserved for special guests. He stood there, not able to move, eyes wide and lips parted in silent scream as the man run to Linda before any of people gathered there could react, and splashed something he had in the bottle in his hand on the singer’s face, making him first scream in pain, and then fall unconscious to the floor. By then, Kurashi was by his side, the girl bolted, and Linda’s bodyguards were beating up the intruder in fury. Someone was yelling to call an ambulance, the audience outside got restless because of their screams, but Kurashi couldn’t hear any of these.
He held Linda in his arms, eyes wide and terrified as he looked at the terrible sight before him, skin melted right there on the blond’s face.
The ambulance came quickly, and so did the police. Nobody knew when and how even Kurashi managed to sneak into the ambulance with Linda; nobody seemed to notice him in the chaos, and by the time anyone asked what he was even doing there, they were on their way to the hospital. Trying not to be a bother, the raven-haired boy held Linda’s hand all the way, and only parted with him when the singer was rolled into the ER; and he never left the hospital since.
First waiting in front of the operation theater, then, once Linda was rolled into his own, private recovery room, glued to the window that divided it from the corridor, Kurashi only left his lover’s side when he needed to go to the bathroom, or when the hunger was enough to make him dizzy, and so he went to the cafeteria to eat something. Only once did he make a quick trip home, to take a shower and change clothes, and then he was back, waiting, quietly praying for his lover’s quick recovery.
Linda slept. It was partially due to the injury, but mostly because the doctors deemed the psychological damage will be much greater than the actual one. From what Kurashi eavesdropped on - the doctors couldn’t tell him anything, as he was not family, but they were sensible enough to talk rather loudly about the patient’s condition when they were near the raven - Linda was lucky. Only his forehead, cheek and chin, and the corner of his lips got burned and partially melted. His eyes were perfectly fine, and he won’t need any assistance eating. There will be scars, of course, but after some time, he could quite possibly get rid of some of them... but for now, though painful and still healing, the burn didn’t place the blond in any real danger to his health.
And so, few days later, when the doctors deemed the skin has healed enough for it not to hurt when moved, they let Linda wake up; and tactfully left the door open just enough for Kurashi to sneak inside and sit beside his lover once the doctors and nurses left, looking at Linda open his eyes for the first time in days with a soft smile on his tired, pale face, and his hand closed around the singer’s own.
“...good morning, Linda-san.” he murmured softly.
