Houses about 2-300 yards away from the flares...brought to you by #Exxon and the #LindeGroup in #Torrance. But hey, drill baby drill they said. It's totally safe they said.
Workforce of the future gets a glimpse into Linde
Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day took place on Thursday, April 24 in Murray Hill and Stewartsville, New Jersey. The programs provide children of employees with exposure to their parents' jobs.
“The day demonstrates the value of getting a good education,” said Christy Stickle, learning and development specialist with Human Resources. “It helps them to discover the power and possibilities available to them for a future career.”
This year, the events offered presenters from Human Resources, Communications, Clean Energy, Facilities and Healthcare. During the afternoon session the children participated in Fire Extinguisher training and attended cryogenic demonstrations.
“In addition to the demonstrations and activities, we set aside time for the children in Stewartsville to spend time with their parents in their work areas,” said administrative assistant Allison Duffy. “This gave the parents an opportunity to better explain what they do, and why it’s important to Linde.”
“We had a great turnout this year,” said Karen Brown of HR who chaired the Murray Hill event. “We'd like to thank all of our volunteers who worked so hard to make the day safe and a success."
Cryogenics presentation - Bridgewater-Raritan HS
Chillin’ with Cryogenics – Bridgewater-Raritan High School recently hosted a demonstration of engineering with cutting-edge cryogenics — the science and study of extremely low temperatures — conducted by engineers from Linde’s North American headquarters in Murray Hill.
Earl Lawson, senior manager at Linde and head of the oil and gas division, spoke at the Bridgewater-Raritan High School presentation, while Linde engineer, Mike Staub, demonstrated cryogenics.
"The interactive cryogenics presentation provided us with the opportunity to see a different side of science we don’t usually get to experience in the classroom," said Srijoy Dutta, co-founder of the IEEE Student Club (iSTEM Club) at Bridgewater-Raritan High School. "The mission of the IEEE club is to encourage students to consider the STEM fields as a possible career option through engineering-related activities. The demonstration was enriching and fun and we are all glad we got to experience cryogenics from one of the world’s leading engineering companies.”
The presentation, which also included a question-and-answer session, was part of Linde’s ongoing community outreach campaign. This program focuses on supporting science education in local areas where the company maintains offices or other facilities.
