6. running their thumb over the other’s hand
They were curled up on the small loveseat that occupied Thorin's sitting room, close enough to the fireplace to keep warm but not too closet hat they might end up overly warm. It was the perfect place to spend most of the evening. Bilbo had his head laid against Thorin's chest, reading a book he had propped up with a hand. His other hand was entwined with Thorin's. The dwarf wasn't doing anything himself, merely pleased to relax with the hobbit and watch the fire quietly.
Sometimes being able to just sit and do nothing was what he needed.
He brushed his thumb over the back of Bilbo's hand, tracing a random pattern as he watched the flames flicker. He heard a soft sigh from Bilbo. Thorin continued his study of the fire, thinking on his next project for the forge and unconsciously tracing the patterns into Bilbo's skin.
He felt the press of Bilbo's nose against his neck and paused. Thorin tilted his head to look at the hobbit.
"Bilbo?"
"Sorry," Bilbo breathed quietly and Thorin thought there was just a small hitch in his breath, as if he were on the verge of tears. "I just... I never quite thought I'd have something like this."
"Oh," Thorin murmured softly, tracing the outline of an acorn onto Bilbo's hand with his thumb. He felt the ghost of Bilbo's smile against his skin. "Well... you're not getting rid of me."
