Wondering about your works/workflow! :) ☕️- favorite passage, 👶- advice for new writers, 🎲- your favorite chapter/part from a multiparty series, 🎈- what’s a spoiler for a wip or series?, and ✏️- favorite part about writing
My favourite passage of my writing is from "Wherever I'm with You," this paragraph:
He was always gentle with the four dwarflings, and often uncommonly indulgent. Bilbo hadn’t been able to hold in his chuckles the day he arrived to find Katla sitting on Thorin’s shoulders and braiding dandelions into his hair while Burin and Burar sat in his lap and tugged the braids she’d finished loose again, tossing the limp dandelions into a pile. It was, from what Bilbo understood of dwarvish custom, extremely indulgent of Thorin, as the three youngest dwarflings were not his kin, and as such had no business touching his hair. But he’d sat, relaxed and unprotesting, almost dozing in the sun while they played with his mane of dark hair, like a great sleepy hound overrun with pups. It was a rare peaceful, unguarded moment, and Bilbo regretted breaking it with his mirth.
I like the mental image of Thorin being gentle with little ones.
👶- advice for new writers
Read all the writing advice you can - and then try it out and reject whatever doesn't work for you. There are no 'rules' for writing, only suggestions and preferences, and while it can be intimidating to hear some respected author say, 'you must do this' or 'you must never do this,' no one is the be all, end all. All you can do is practice and try different things until you find what works for you. Just because it works for Stephen King doesn’t mean it's the right way for you.
🎲- your favorite chapter/part from a multiparty series
Honestly, my absolute favourite chapter that I've ever written, despite the myriad flaws in the fic as a whole, is undoubtedly "The Blood Traitor," a chapter in my story "Harry's Cousins." It's the chapter where Lucius finally chooses Harry over the blood purity he's been raised with and lived by, and it builds on everything that has come before. It's a tight chapter (by my rambling standards) that accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do - it's climactic and it encapsulates all of the prior character development that I had laid the groundwork for. I'm biased, but I think it's a quite powerful chapter that probably showcases the best of my writing abilities. I was proud of it then, and I'm proud of it now.
🎈- what’s a spoiler for a wip or series?
Mm, it's not a huge deal because I don't know if it's going to come up in the main plot at all, but in my Pokémon Bagginshield fic, the Master Ball is a device of Sauron's making.
✏️- favorite part about writing
Oof, that’s a tough one…. There's so much I love about writing! Um…I think my favourite part about writing is probably getting to see what I've envisioned 'on paper' where other people can see it, like it's come to life in a way, instead of existing only in my head. If that makes any sense at all.
Thank you so much for the ask, darling! 😘😘❤️❤️❤️
