Queer Reads: EM Lindsey

For the fifth of Wednesday’s post, we have two sports: hockey AND baseball. 

E.M. Lindsey writes a variety of topics in the romance world, and I haven’t read nearly enough of their books. Lindsey’s books are full of really well written angst, disability rep, and trauma, with a healthy side of well-communicated kinky spice. 

The hockey books are two duos, one co-written with Marina Vivancos, and the other one solo written. While I enjoyed all of them, the West Coast Sin Bin books, Breakaway and Soft Hands, have the added bonus of being set in Denver. I love a story set in my home state. 

The baseball trilogy is also set in Denver, and features a sports world where out players are a thing (which the hockey books do too). Lindsey does hurt/comfort really well, and book 3 has a fantastic redemption arc in it. Out of the 9 or 10 baseball books I read (and attempted to read) in April, these three were definitely my favorites. 

On my to-read list of basically every other book Lindsey has written, so check them out.

a battle royale game called Silk Road or something where instead of a shrinking circle, players land on ‘tracks’ that are surrounded by a lot of heavy-cover deadspace. progress towards the endgame is forward along the tracks: you can go faster on these relatively open roads than you can in the brush, but the brush is much, much safer and has different loot. 

every so often, the forested parts fill with overwhelmingly deadly traps and monsters, forcing most players to pivot to the nearest road, now made briefly dense with hyped-up people trying to take control of this fast route to the finish.

the closer to the end you go, the more cover, good items, and so on appear, and different roads have different starting conditions. the first X players/groups of players that reach the end of the roads are locked in, while everyone else dies? or maybe there’s a time limit, and if you’re in the endzone when it runs out you get to stick around. i dunno!

Line Drive was such a soft and sweet sports romance with just a little bit of heartache thrown in for fun. I loved that both James and Ridley were older (late 30’s/early 40’s) and that they were smitten with each other even though they had a not so great first meeting. Also? Phoenix (Ridley’s kid) was so funny! I loved that he didn’t put up with his dad’s BS and didn’t let his dad (or James) get away with using him as an excuse to not go after the things that made him happy. I also loved that there were so many quieter moments throughout this story. The little moments where the burnout, depression, anxiety, and frustrations of life were balanced by all the happy, sweet, and soft moments. I loved this book and I think it might be my favorite in the series so far. It’s getting five stars and I can’t wait to dive into the next one!
