Eddie raked one hand through his hair. “Hey, I, uh— I kinda told Wayne everything. Awhile ago. About the Upside Down and what happened to us,” he blurted suddenly. “I’d had a really bad attack, and he was so scared, he wanted to take me to the hospital but I didn’t wanna go, and I just— I just told him everything. I couldn’t hold back. It was such a relief, y’know? So if you ever need to, like, talk to him, you can. He’s got you.”

Max couldn’t possibly describe how much better— safer— it made her feel to know that. “What about Claudia? Does she know?”

“Doubt it.” Eddie shrugged. “I think she would’ve taken Dustin and run a long time ago if she knew what Hawkins was really like.” They shared a chuckle at that. “But Wayne’s got your back. And of course I still do too, okay?” He fiddled with his engagement ring. “I keep my walkie tuned to our private channel at nighttime. If you ever need me, all you gotta do is call. I’ll be listening.”

She punched him in the gut again. “You big dork,” she sobbed. “Quit making me cry.”

Eddie laughed softly. “I won’t tell anyone,” he promised.
