Hiatus
For the coming couple of days, maybe weeks, i’ll be too busy moving from .de to .id so I cannot fill a queue as usual.
Regular posting will resume late October. Thank you for your patience and loyalty.
This blog reached a “magical” milestone and has over 10000 followers now, exactly one week before its sixth “birthday”. Ten thousand! I am stunned and humbled. Thank you all for your interest, the conversations, and the virtual friendships.
According to the follower list, our ten thousandth follower is @ataulwolf According to the activity log, it’d be @gal4xyfalls

Hi! Do you have any practical advice on how to do morphological analysis?
That is a very broad question, and not easily answered in a few words.
In general, it is always good to look for similar words and look for the elements that change from one word to the next. That will give you a first idea what might be segments that can be analyzed.
In above paragraph, for example, you find {words} and {word}. Both have similar meanings. With more data, you would find more examples where a word plus/minus {-s} has a similar pairing and where the {-s] ha a similar function. From there, you can move on.
Another approach would be to look for changes when eliciting or comparing verb inflections. What changes when you get the corresponding forms of, e.g., “i go, you go she goes, … i went, he will go” etc.?
If you would like some more thorough guidance, I’d suggest we discuss this in our forum https://www.linguisten.de
Are you doing your doctorate now? Or do you already have a job in Academia?
Third option: I got my PhD in 2008 and have held several limited-term positions after that; i’ve been unemployed for about two years now and basically given up on academia.
