YGO Legacy of the Duelist - Link Evolution: Retranslated
Wanted to give this mod project by TheBeard a quick shoutout, especially since it's another little thing I've chipped in some work for. The aim of this is to rework and re-translate the game's campaign dialogue, which is faithful to the English dub from 4Kids/4K/4K Media (to a fault--they even include the needlessly added backstory between Yusei and Ushio in 5D's...), to instead be faithful to the original Japanese animé for each series, original names and all. Currently, the DM campaign is 100% done, and work on GX's has been underway. It'll also be using the TCG card names throughout.
I've helped with re-translating the episode titles and hints as used in the Duel Data to name each duel in the game (lightly using Crunchyroll's and Yugipedia's translations as references for DM, 5D's, ZEXAL, ARC-V, and VRAINS, while using my translations for GX's), and he's using my GX subs as a base for the GX cutscene dialogue while referencing the available subs for the other series (I'm also providing occasional translation help as things come up). And I've actually helped with uncensoring some of the sprites, as well; there isn't a Japanese version of this game, from what I was able to find, but using Tag Force and Duel Links as references, a handful were obviously censored--someone else helped with restoring the cross on Keith's sprite, for example, while I helped restore the "DR" on Ryuzaki's hat, along with recoloring Yubel's skin and uncensoring Mai and Aki, as you can see here (for Aki, I pulled from her TF4 sprite [oddly, Aki in LOTD uses her TF4 sprite while Mai's sprite is from TF Special (and was also censored there despite TFSP not being localized)]):
TheBeard is also working on a "Restored" mod aiming to add more to the cutscenes to be a bit more faithful to the corresponding anime scenes while fixing visual inconsistencies (for example, can you believe the Judai vs White Manjoume duel's intro cutscene shows him in blue to start before then showing him in his black jacket one line later while still covering lines from before Judai gets through to him??); more to come there.
Overall, looks promising and I'm looking forward to playing through it for the first time; if anyone else has the game on Steam and wants to try a more faithful-to-the-original-canon experience, give it a try! (Not sure about applying the mod to the Switch version, but we'll see I guess, lol.)
