mdzs fic rec: A Heart Undying

NonsensicalRambling is a truly excellent author and every single one of their mdzs works is absolutely amazing. Excellent writing, characterization, well thought out and riveting plots, and good attention to detail.

This story goes AU when wei wuxian is thrown in the burial mounds. He emerges not quite human anymore and without a complete knowledge as to what he is except not alive anymore. Lan wangji tries to help in as in the actual series and at first fails and they argue before eventually figuring at least some things out and actually managing to support wwx. Leading to a better relationship earlier on.

Further changes happen after the war to an eventual happier ending!

One thing I really love about this story is that every minor character gets a name and their own personality and cares even if they are only there for a page or two. It makes the whole world feel much more alive. Also there is some excellent lore to be discovered about just what is going on with wei wuxian!

I feel like everyone has been lying to me about Shen Qingqiu being oblivious! Reading this I really feel like he absolutely knows how he feels about Binghe! He's the one who called himself s grieving widow! Not anyone else!

Many times from his pov he mentions feeling some sort of way. And then quickly follows this up with 'teacherly feelings' or 'so filial' but then there's the '(or something)'. Man knows what he's feeling and is trying to brainwash himself out of it!

This man is very twisted up about his own sexuality. But I really don't think being ignorant of it is the the problem?

Perhaps he is deeply ashamed. Or just so completely certain it wouldn't be reciprocated. Probably just so ingrained that this is not socially acceptable so avoid avoid avoid!

Sqq has *experience* in brainwashing himself. Perhaps this behavior started well before he became Shen Qingqiu.

mdzs fic rec: we meet at the thousandth step

Awesomely written wangxian fic! Reads like a book. I love that it's told around a series of night hunts. Some of the mysteries can get a bit dark but it is overall a very happy story. The setting is Canon divergent where wwx's parents didn't die. I particularly loved that there is a certain point of divergence that isn't entirely revealed until later in the story!

mdzs fic rec: Let's Learn with Wei-xiansheng!

This is so good!! Short, funny, excellent character voice for everyone! I love that wwx is making science videos with the junior quartet! Super excellent writing that conveys a lot without a lot of exposition. I was laughing through this.

Just found this author and I have only read a few works so far but they have all been fantastic and they have a lot of stuff!

Legend of Zelda breath of the wild fic rec: Lost and Found by MaryDragon

This story blew my mind. Could not put it down, did not sleep. It's a what if hyrule had full technology with phones and cars and guns, etc. But!!! The magic is still there!! It still has most of the things I love about legend of Zelda games -- magic healing, destiny, fairies, hidden grottos, swords, etc. This story follows the breath of the wild game storyline somewhat without the divine beasts. Link wakes after a week or so long coma with no memories and a horrific injury on his neck. He has to visit each corner of hyrule to recover his memory of just what he'd been up to this past year. And figure out just why he has this incredibly urgent feeling he needs to be somewhere.

There is a 90k companion fic too!! With a lot more detail on what link had been doing. That story includes a lot more Zelda!

Thinking something on the importance of overcoming self hate in svsss and how hating yourself hurts the people around you.

Sqq hated himself so much for pushing Binghe into the abyss he couldn't even bring himself to apologize. Because if he can't forgive himself? Why would Binghe ever believe a genuine apology?

And Binghe hates himself for being a demon and assumes that sqq must also hate that part of him.

So here they both are hating themselves and assuming others hate them too.

And I think this is the core misunderstanding of their relationship and the book.

Because sqq was sure that if he just died everything would be better. Because he hated himself so much he wanted to be someone else. But dying didn't change who he was. He still wanted to help others and protect his sect and cared about Luo Binghe and wanted the best for them all.

All sqq dying accomplished was hurting a lot of people in a lot of ways. Because all the people who cared about him hated to see that. And so many people care.

And Luo Binghe hating himself didn't help at all because he was just making himself more unstable and therefore violent. Pinning all his hopes and dreams on one man.

So both of these men needed to learn to let the other person love them. And I think that is something that probably took a long time to do *well*.

Mdzs fic rec: wooing the lady by ShippersList

Cute short story focused on a rare pair! Could use some more love. I really like how a-qing is written and Zizhen is a delight!

Made dumplings for the first time today.

Well at least for the first time by myself from scratch.

Looked at a few different recipes for gyoza and Chinese type dumplings and just got started. I think they turned out pretty well.

Used chicken and a few vegetables/ aromatics. Could probably use less ginger and more other spices next time.

I did end up with extra dough. So will need to see if keeping it in the fridge and using it another time will work.

Took about 3 hours so not sure if this will be a regular thing especially since 2 younger kids didn't even want to eat them. :(
