2011 70th Anniversary Xiaguan | Liquid Proust | Raw Puerh

This tea is coming off of an iron pressed cake with Taiwanese storage. I haven’t had much experience with Taiwanese storage except for some of the teas I’ve tried from LP. So, which one of these flavors is reminiscent of Taiwanese storage? I’m unsure! Immediately, the ripe fruit aroma coming off the wet leaves is very apparent. It smells like over ripened bananas. To me, this scent-note is important for the sweetest sheng. The tea brews clean, a nice clear gold soup. Later brews steep deeper into that gold. Flavor-wise is very smooth and sweet. The fruit flavors are all there, with some hints of honey. Fresh sweet leaves. Some good energy too with longevity. This tea lasted me many more steeps than just the first session. If you enjoy your sweet and fruity sheng puerh, you might enjoy this one. Steep it harder if you crave a bit more bitterness, but it’s a perfect sheng otherwise.

2022 Cookie Monster | Liquid Proust | Ripe Puerh

Made some eggs too today lol.

This tea definitely needs to rest for a handful of months, and that’s why I’m trying it now! I’ve never really “aged” any teas for any amount of time. Just because lack of storage space for it. But, when I saw LP put this tea up as a sample in the shop with the context of it needing some rest, I got excited. I’m trying some grams of this sample today and then letting the rest of it age in a small purple clay container to try again in January. When I go drink it in January, I’ll have this post to check back and see how it has changed!

Bittersweet and dark; still a little of that wet pile taste here. It’s a deep and damp shou. Aroma is like wet forest and cacao. Super chocolate-y. Lots of funk goes away after the first couple of steeps, but that deep richness and bitterness is still there. Surprised how drinkable this is already, but I would prefer it rest for 6ish months. This shou leans heavy on the bittersweet chocolate spectrum of things with a little bit of fruity-ness. Interesting qi feel in the head, not something I usually get with shou. Perhaps too bitter and ripe for me right now, but it might get better. Wonder how it’ll be with time!

Daily Milan Dancong High Roast | Liquid Proust | Oolong Tea

I’m back in classes already, spring break went by too quick!

Another oolong per the request of the people! I don’t think I’ve had the chance to discuss any other dancongs here before. This one hit me with an immediate coffee aroma, and then followed up with this smell of lemon hard candy. Am I going nuts? No, it seriously smells like that. Very strong fruit flavor to back up the aroma. Coffee notes linger under it but completely disappear in later steeps. A bit dry in the mouth. LP recommends brewing this one light so I have been keeping my steep times short. Very lovely little tea, I’d love to try cold brewing it too.

Having a hard time getting myself back into the groove with doing school work. Sitting down for tea every morning always helps.

1999 “Smoked” Maocha | Liquid Proust | Raw Puerh

This tea was fast to become one of my favorites, it’s too bad I’m hitting the end of my sample here. Something about smokey aged sheng always makes me happy. This one gives off the aroma of sweet barbecue when the hot water first hits. Nice red liquor color to go along with it; this tea is as old as I am! Taste is very clean with little to no bitterness, you can taste the smoke along with slight hints of sweet fruit and dry wood. Mostly that sweet sweet smoke flavor all the way through. Calming bit of qi in the head and chest. I could enjoy this one all day!

Just got my cholesterol checked and my levels are officially good! I had high cholesterol for years and finally got myself back in shape. Lost about 20lb this year and am actually healthy for once (‘:

Assam Oolong | Liquid Proust | Oolong Tea

Finally trying this one! Been sitting waiting for a long time now.

Opening up this bag of oolong I’m hit with a nice, sweet, roasted wood aroma. Wet leaf is aroma is similar with some more buttery notes, smells freshly cooked. Perhaps some whiskey barrel. The tea itself shares a lot of the toasty qualities of black tea, while at the same time being sweeter and lighter. Apparent malt flavor, and a bit of campfire banana. Liquor is very orange, slightly drying in the mouth. Very pleasant tea overall.

Got a big deadline today for an assignment AHHHH

2021 Raw Liubao | Liquid Proust

Liubao is a type of Heicha or black fermented tea. I’m completely inexperienced with the subject and I’m pretty sure this might be my first time with heicha…(?) Correct me if I’m wrong, I honestly can’t remember. To my surprise, the brew is very light in color. Almost a green-y yellow, but it’s hard to tell with my cups. Aroma is also surprising — a bit woody and reminds me of a garden shop. Flavor is slightly vegetal with raw cacao and some dryness in the mouth. Much greener than I expected from just looking at the unsteeped leaves. I’m not 100% sure how I feel about this tea, but I’d be interested in trying more Liubao in the future.

Haven’t gotten much done this spring break; I started taking ADHD medication and it’s left me feeling sick every day. The symptoms should pass, but I’ve been unproductive as a result. Should hopefully help in the long run.

2008 Five Month Rye Barrel - Taste of Hong Kong | Liquid Proust | Raw Puerh

Hi tumblr, been a while c:

I’ve returned with a wild tea for you all. I opened this sample and was hit with the smell of rye and dried fruit. This sheng from LP is made with Yee On Tea’s Taste of Hong Kong. I typically love Yee On’s storage so this one was exciting for me. The wet leaves have that distinct traditional Hong Kong storage aroma with more hints of that dried fruit - maybe it’s fig. Some of the rye smell is cut back once the leaf is wet. Steeps quite dark too, my photos don’t do it justice (it shows the rinse). Almost a crimson amber color. I’ve seen a couple other folks call this one “too funky”, but I don’t find it to be that funky. Or, maybe it’s the exact kind of funk that I enjoy. I can taste some of the rye within the funky storage taste. The dried ripe fruit flavor is prevalent alongside the musty-ness. Some hints of wood and smoke too. A bit of strong energy in this tea. Not much astringency; pretty smooth and slightly drying in the mouth. So, I like this tea. It has some very interesting notes that make it into a treat plus that Yee On storage flavor. It’s probably not for everyone, nor would I drink it daily, but it’s enjoyable for me.

Been enjoying my summer break, but it’s been way too hot to drink tea! Feels like every day we break records on how hot it is here.
