2021 Raw Liubao | Liquid Proust

Liubao is a type of Heicha or black fermented tea. I’m completely inexperienced with the subject and I’m pretty sure this might be my first time with heicha…(?) Correct me if I’m wrong, I honestly can’t remember. To my surprise, the brew is very light in color. Almost a green-y yellow, but it’s hard to tell with my cups. Aroma is also surprising — a bit woody and reminds me of a garden shop. Flavor is slightly vegetal with raw cacao and some dryness in the mouth. Much greener than I expected from just looking at the unsteeped leaves. I’m not 100% sure how I feel about this tea, but I’d be interested in trying more Liubao in the future.

Haven’t gotten much done this spring break; I started taking ADHD medication and it’s left me feeling sick every day. The symptoms should pass, but I’ve been unproductive as a result. Should hopefully help in the long run.

Its leaves are prominent, large and thick. Composed of a bud and two leaves. Robust looking, with an aged appearance. It tends to be compared to the skin of a tree, cut into pieces and tightly rolled and twisted. Hard and elegant texture. The appearance of the leaves in general leans more towards the brown tint, with hazelnut tones. Medium size, sometimes large, twisted on themselves. Its aroma is scarce. Subtle memories of wet woods. INFUSION In general, burgundy red with ruby nuances. Bright, not too dark. Intense color and very attractive tonality. Clean and bright hues. Infusion bright and alive. With a velvety, sweet aroma. With a taste "wo dui" (without much taste of wet pile) very little. Subtle and wooden bitter chocolate. Dried fruit flavor. Wooden like. Silky and nothing astringent. Clean and attractive aroma with clean and careful notes. Mineral souvenir, earthy notes. A certain degree of palatability (quality of being pleasant to the palate). WET LEAVES Of an attractive elegance. Bright, elastic. When deployed they show the two leaves and the bud of what they are composed of. They still retain some curls of their initial form. Its wood fragrance is noticeable after the infusion, accompanied by earthy smell. OPINION It is the first time I try this tea. I was pleasantly surprised by its great taste, very different from the pu'erh that I have usually taken because it does not have that intense flavor to “wo dui”, which makes it very attractive to the palate. In the future, I will order this tea. I recommend it to tea lovers pu´erh. They will love to try it. 📷Photo by Matías C.

90’s Malaysia-stored Liu Bao from @globalteahut in December! Wowowowowowow! Probably the nicest Liu Bao I’ve tried! Has all the things you want from it, dark, woody, medicinal, a tad sweet at times, medium-thick, and super smooth! I wanted something dark and warm to soothe a sore throat, but then I remembered this.
