Sunday Seven
CRANKY, super cranky today.
The Roommate got up at 11:00 and is all pissed off that he slept so late, now he’s late getting to work and he has three jobs back-to-back so the whole day is screwed up. He was pissed that he had to feed/water the chickens and that I asked him to sweep up the dead bird off the floor that the cats killed but I’ve had abdominal surgery and can’t do it myself and didn’t want him leaving a dead animal on this floor. In his tantrum he admitted it’s been there for a few days already and he was ignoring it. Great. It’s now 1:00pm and he’s still futzying around upstairs.
Though I’ve had laparoscopic surgery twice before now, and each surgery brings several new incisions, the surgeon made 6 new holes to do this repair. Now wearing a bikini is entirely out of the question, dammit! And none of the incisions are symmetrical. Boo Hoo now I’ll never be a beautiful corpse. :)
I can’t find anything - we had to empty the bathroom to do the repair and the Roommate loaded some boxes of stuff and put them back into the bathroom so now I have no idea where anything is. And I can’t lift the boxes to go through them to find what I’m looking for.
Chemo destroyed my veins, they were okay through the chemo infusions, but they are wrecked now. Instead of a direct stick to put in a line or draw blood, now the phlebotomist has to dig around trying to find the vein and it hurts like hell, plus leaves a heck of a bruise where there’s bleeding under the skin.
The Roommate is to drop off eggs at the bakery on his way to work, what do you want to bet that he can’t do that today as THAT will be what makes him late to the job site - where I think he was supposed to be around 8:00 this morning. He was supposed to be checking for eggs this morning but he hasn’t, I’m certain.
The Roommate makes up scenarios about the dogs, cats, turkeys, birds that are so farfetched that there’s no way they could be close to reality, but I try not to deride them as foolish as I don’t want to hurt his feelings. And he STILL can’t tell the difference between a rooster, a turkey or peacock. I’m trying to remember one of these, but I can’t. Typical.
Fandoms I follow and post for
This is a list of all (most of) the fandom I follow and post from. I’ll try to keep it updated as much as possible.
FRIDAY FIVE
Chemo Day - 5 hours of infusions #3 of 4 infusion completed, yay! (BTW the bruise to the left by my elbow is a bad stick by the phlebotomist who drew blood yesterday to make sure all my levels were okay for me to have chemo today)
Farm Visit - Steve was outside and a bunch of kids were looking at the chickens so Steve invited them in to see the farm. It was my neighbor, her 12-year old daughter, her son and her daughter’s 4 or 5 birthday party guests, the whole experience was hilarious! They spent an hour naming birds, carrying around chickens and chicks, feeding everyone and learning about the other animals on the farm. I LOVE when kids come to visit. Added plus Steve is terrific with kids.
Steve - I wrote about Steve a bit yesterday in my TBT post, but here’s a bit more. Steve and I went to college together at Pratt in Brooklyn, NY. We were both graphic design majors and were next door neighbors in the dorm my first semester but though he was dating a guy in my class, we never met. I met him the following year and we became fast friends. Steve remains one of my favorite people on the planet. We worked together at Clairol, and for several years at a Financial Magazine where he was on staff and I was a contractor. We started traveling together early on and found we were a great travel match, we just fall into a comfortable rhythm, always have, hopefully always will. We’ve been through a lot of history together by now and I was delighted when he came to stay for a month when I had my mastectomy in February and is back on Wednesday for 3 weeks while I’m undergoing chemo. It feels like he was just gone for a weekend in between.
Gifts - I have received a box from Amazon every time I’ve returned from chemo, all from my main client. Always great, appropriate gifts. From serious helpful stuff in the beginning today’s more light-hearted pair of Fuck Cancer cats socks! I will post a picture in a bit. He’s Awesome!
Shooting - Like everyone, I find this so disheartening and the shameful lip service paid to these shootings by the powers that be — who are fully lining their pockets with millions on the backs of dead children — entirely unconscionable.
I am on "vacation" most of this week (I took off last Thurs to this Wednesday). Mostly I have been lazing around or sleeping, because I *also* am getting over a sinus infection. But there were a couple things I wanted to do while I was off work, so listy list time.
Clean the bathtub, which is always an undertaking because it kills my back but good. But it really need to get cleaned, so.
Rearrange the kitchen because it is an unorganized disaster. I need a better storage plan. There is plenty of storage, I am just using it badly.
Work on my sewing. I am trying to learn to sew for real this year- I know the basics, but want to be able to make clothes. Right now, though, I am working on straight lines, so I have a mask to finish, and one to take apart and redo now that I have elastic
Take out trash. There is a cardboard mountain building up because I can't go to the store but still need stuff.
Sweep the patio because all the rain the past couple weeks has washed the mulch right into the patio.
That might be an ambitious list, given that I am still not feeling great. But I can do stuff in increments. And I might just do stuff today and then do whatever tomorrow and Wednesday. We'll see.
Okay, rest of Christmas Eve:
- nap
- shower
- bread dough
- dinner
- dress for church
- Mass
- sleep
Saturday 6
In which I discover that I do not have the patience of a saint.
Tons of kids here today including a girl who I found annoying and shrill. She kept screaming that everyone else could walk my dogs at any time [they can’t] but she couldn’t, and therefore she got to do as she pleased. Uhm no. I had to step in and set down the law. I did. She backed down.
Acara has taken to barking at full volume in the house in the middle of the night and will not stop until I put a muzzle on her...any other suggestions? If she’s outside at night she will not come to me and will literally bark for 4 - 5 hours straight. Days she only barks if a person with a dog walks past the house. WTF?
A neighbor I find annoying buys eggs but always forgets to pay. She wanted eggs Friday, we were collecting for the bakery so she ended up with a partial order. To be nice, I let her know she could pick up the others today. Her husband came by and I sent her the usual annoyed note asking her to pay, but now I can’t remember if her husband did pay - I think he may have so now I am fully the jackass. Ha!
I want a kitten and more chicks. I have 4 cats, which is plenty. One is 15, one is 10, the others are young but, kittens galore this year, so cute! I sold 6 chicks today to my favorite kids, a predator killed theirs. There’s a hatchery where I can place a small order for all female chicks. I have pens available and have broody hens ready to be moms - so yes then?
A client sent me a fitbit - it’s cool, I’m still figuring things out. The first day it broke out my dog walk as exercise, but hasn’t since? Trying to figure out if I need to use a timer?
Steve leaves Thursday AM, my LAST chemo is Friday. I’m nervous for this stage to end, only as I’ve had doctors hand-holding since I was diagnosed with cancer and now I will be responsible entirely for preventing the cancer from returning. That makes me terrified.

Favorite character from ten different fandoms in no particular order. Because tagging. Optimus Prime - Transformers (met Peter Cullen a couple years ago, freakin' cool).
