I feel like Protolith would also do the rubber duck thing with Curiosity. Entering the ship at the end of a long feeling loop, venting to it about frustrations, and explaining their latest source of confusion. Start of the next loop, they finally notice the new logs in the computer, then double check their logs and realize what they missed.

THEY DO ACTUALLY!!!! this is a lot of how them TALKING to Curiosity started, was trying to just get their thoughts out and sort them by pretending to "discuss" or "explain" with Curiosity, before it starts to get a little more personal loop by loop...
