I picked Krolia because I haven’t seen this done with her yet!

Krolia smiled as she knocked on her son’s door. She and Keith were finally starting to bond again and she was excited to spend some time with her son. They had been trying to spend a few hours together every other night since they found each other to get to know each other. Keith had seemed more hesitant than her the past few times they did this for a reason she couldn’t discern, but she was hopeful he would settle down once he got more comfortable around her. She knew he wasn’t going to love her immediately- she was, essentially, a stranger to him now- but that was okay. She knew it would take time.

She knocked again after a moment when there was no answer, then frowned curiously. Did Keith forget that she was coming? This was still a fairly new routine, so she wouldn’t be surprised if he had (he had forgot once before already.)

“Keith?” She called, though she received no response.

Growing a little worried, the woman placed her hand on the door’s sensor. It opened right away, which was surprising (so far Keith’s door had always been locked) but she put the thought to the side as she peered inside. Her eyes immediately landed on her son, who was sitting on the floor in a pair of space-themed pajamas, holding a stuffed hippo in his arms and suckling in a red pacifier.

He startled at the sound of the door opening and looked up to her with frightened eyes. Before she could react, tears filled her son’s eyes and he began to cry, dropping the pacifier in the process.

Krolia was confused and shocked (so much had happened so quickly) but she quickly ran to the boy’s side and knelt down in front of him. Keith may not be the baby she remembered anymore, but she still felt the need to protect him when he was upset. And while the pacifier and toy confused her, they were familiar enough for her to jump into action and comfort her son.

“Hey, it’s okay sweetheart. It’s just me.” She soothed as she picked up the pacifier, wiped it off on her shirt, and offered it to him again. “I’m sorry if I scared you.” She apologized sweetly.

Keith stared at the pacifier tearfully, hesitant to take it. He leaned back slightly and turned his head away as he cried, still spooked from her sudden entrance.

His mother softly shushed him and put it down. “It’s okay honey. There’s nothing to be scared of.” She promised.

“Did you forget I was coming?” Krolia asked, trying to get his attention. She was acting on auto-pilot, remembering how she would calm down Keith when he was just a baby.

The boy hiccupped and nodded, still crying upsetly.

She hummed in understanding and nodded too. “You were just relaxing by yourself, huh?”

Keith sniffled and nodded again, then brought a hand to his face to wipe away his tears. “Uh huh.” He grizzled.

Krolia smiled warmly. “That’s okay, I’m happy you were relaxing.” She said. “Is it okay if I relax with you?”

The boy sniffled again as he started to quiet down. “Mad?” He asked, his eyes wide.

“No baby, I’m not mad.” His mom reassured. Now that he was calmer, she offered him the pacifier again. “Do you want this back?” She asked gently.

Keith hesitated for a second before he nodded and opened his mouth to let her give it to him. She carefully pressed the nipple to his lips and he latched on and started to nurse on it. He rubbed at his eyes again to rid them of tears, starting to calm down now that he had his comfort object.

Krolia smiled again when he quieted down. “Who’s that?” She asked curiously, pointing to the stuffed hippo in his arms.

“Hippo.” Keith said, hugging the toy tighter.

“Is he your friend? Can you introduce us?”

Finally, her son’s lips pulled up into a smile. “Yeah.”

Real things little Keith has done (and likely gotten in trouble for):

Round two of sheith age regression hcs y'all

Filled his sippy cup with coffee

Spilled said coffee all over one of shiro's nice button-downs, which Keith wore without permission

Drawn horns and a unibrow on Iverson's portrait in shiro's old year book

Named all of the rivals in his Pokemon games "Dickface"

Filled his sippy cup with redbull (I have done this before oops... And if you're wondering bout the blog name, well.)

Stolen or hidden Shiro's shoes, razor, toothbrush, etc. in effort to keep him from getting ready & leaving for work.

Eaten shiro's (clearly labeled) leftovers from the fridge

Washed his favorite stuffed lion in the washing machine and consequently ruined it. He didn't get in trouble for that one so much as Shiro had to try and get him to stop crying after and remind him how stuffies and washing machines don't mix. They went to the store that night to get Keith a new one (and some ice cream) because Shiro's a bit of a pushover

Fireflies and Little Eyes

He hadn’t started it, he never did, but for some reason he found himself trying not to cry as the swing was pulled out from under him. Keith only let out a small grunt as he was pushed to the ground by one of the bigger boys. “Stop!” he said as strongly as he could. He just wanted to play on the swings.

But before he could get back on his feet or reply to the mean comments about how orphan boys shouldn’t be playing at the park, the bullies were running away. “Thank you,” Keith huffed, brushing the sand off his pants, but stopped when the new boy started asking questions.

Digging his shoe into the sand, he thought about his answer. Would this boy be mean too? He was bigger than the boys before, Keith could tell from his shadow but was too nervous to look at him. “I-I don’t...” he sniffled, still upset from before, “they left me.”

Kolivan sighed and readjusted the squirming little in his lap to lay against his chest. Keith had woken up from his midday nap not too long ago and was full of energy and wanted to play. Normally, the Galra wouldn’t mind and would stop whatever he was doing to play with him, but he was currently in a very important meeting. His office wasn’t little-proof either, so he couldn’t just let the boy play by himself.

“Koli!” Keith whined as he squirmed unhappily in his caregiver’s arms, trying to get his attention. “Wanna play.” He huffed, grimacing upward at the man’s face.

“In a minute.” Kolivan said patiently. Thankfully, he had already presented the information he was responsible for and was muted, so no one heard the little’s complaint. All he needed to do was listen to the rest of the meeting, which was easier said than done with a restless little in his lap.

The boy groaned in frustration and kicked his legs, barely missing the desk. “No!”

Kolivan slid his seat backwards to prevent the little from accidentally kicking something, but otherwise didn’t respond to his fussing. This caused Keith to groan even louder as he twisted in his caregiver’s arms.

Finally, the boy managed to free himself from Kolivan’s arms and got to his knees in the man’s lap, then grabbed his ears and tugged. The blade flinched slightly at the sudden pain, but let him entertain himself, if only so he would stop distracting the other people in the meeting (he’d already received a few curious glances.) Keith hummed happily to himself as he played with the Galra’s ears and sat still for a few blessed minutes, which was long enough for the meeting to adjourn.

The second the video chat closed, Kolivan snatched the boy up into his arms, curled his lips over his teeth, and playfully bit the little’s neck. Keith squealed and laughed at the ticklish feeling before trying to get away, but the man held onto him and kept gummy biting his neck.

“Koli! No!” The boy shouted through his giggles as he fruitlessly attempted to shove his caregiver’s head away.

Kolivan ignored the yelling and continued his assault, causing the boy to screech with laughter. Soon, the little was panting for breath, and the man pulled away to look at him. “You’re so impatient.” He scolded, though there wasn’t any weight to the statement.

Keith curled up in his arms to protect his neck and giggled breathlessly. “No.” He argued.

“No?” Kolivan asked with a reluctant smile.

“Yeah.” The boy nodded and grinned, before bravely pointing up at his caregiver. “Boring.”

Kolivan smirked as he put the boy down in his lap again. “Is that so?” He asked, receiving another nod in response. “Then I’ll have to prove you wrong!” He said before he suddenly tickled the little’s sides, causing him to fall into laughter again.
