#InHonor of Enrique and to help the community that he so loved, we are donating 40 #Backpacks Enrique would have been 31 on the 23rd of July. He had been #LivingOnTheStreets. This was his choice as he had a #HomeToGoTo He enjoyed #BeingFree and doing as he wanted on his own terms. After speaking to several of his #StreetFamily we learned how much of a giver he was. He often #PutOthersBeforeHimself Even the police who worked the area had good things to say about him. He wasn’t a troublemaker. #InHisHonor we are having a #BBQ for those he loved so much, today, at a park he often frequented. Everyone, I would love for you to meet Chris! “It was the end of January 2020 and I was living on the #streets of Gloversville, I had just came in from living in the forest of the Adirondacks because I prefer that to #livingonthestreets but it was getting below zero often and I had decided to look for help before I got #frostbite or worse. I had already been to social services of Fulton County in mid December but they had put me up in a #motel covered in white #mold and infested with #bedbugs so I stayed the weekend with my gear outside and went to their office Monday and refused help except snap. After a few more cold weeks in the woods and on the streets I was pretty #stressed out. One day I was keeping warm and charging my phone at the Gloversville public library and I saw a poster for the Veterans & Community Housing Coalition and called the number but being I was a peace time #vet and my service was so long ago and I don't qualify for VA programs I didn't have much hope for help. A very nice young lady answered my call took my information and asked if I needed a room for the night but I said I would be ok and she asked me to #meet her at the library the next day at 10 am as soon as it opened. The next day at 10 am sharp she was there and we did some paper work and I found a place with leads for #apartments and #jobs that she had brought with her not to mention #food and #hygiene products and I was inside that night. They continue to check up on me and help me any way possible I am #foreverintheirdebt and am hopeful to get work soon and be on MT feet again thanks to these #awesome people and their great work and concern for veterans.
