''God of the Woods'' by Liz Moore saw huge spike in sales after Taylor Swift was seen listening to the audiobook on ''The Eras Tour | The End of an Era'' docuseries.

After the documentary, bookstores and digital platforms have seen an upturn in sales of the print as well as the audiobook editions. Libraries also note a rise in their waitlists, which is a significant measure of increased readership. Moore even mentioned that she has been receiving a lot of messages lately from new readers who have come to know the novel through Swift, and showed her gratitude to the singer and the fans. x

Books I Loved In 2025: The God of the Woods by Liz Moore

For a bonus, she asked them: Who knew the origins of the word? “Which word?” someone said. "Panic," said T.J. But no one raised a hand. She explained. It came from the Greek god Pan: the god of the woods. He liked to trick people, to confuse and disorient them until they lost their bearings, and their minds.

I can’t stop thinking about the cover art for The God of the Woods and the perfection of that pink paint drop. (Spoilers)

In the book it’s described as “fawn pink,” a play on words since

1. Fawn is the primary way Alice reacts to Peter’s abuse (the other trauma responses are fight, flight, and freeze).

2. At the end, TJ tells Barbara she’ll be okay bc “there are deer in the woods.” She’ll survive by devouring her mother’s response, an incredible metaphor for ending the cycle of generational trauma.

Aside from the wordplay, the art is so well done! The contrasting colors, the complexity and softness (Barbara’s true nature, her kindness to the other campers) covered by a flat, sticky, one-dimensional representation of what her parents expect from her. The inversion of reality and artifice, the woods painting looking real, but the paint drop having a 3D effect. The way it looks like blood, but softened, feminized, sweet.
