// Jane Austin's writing is very oops all foils, and I have many thoughts on Charlotte Lucas. But I do think Mr. Bennet, in some ways, also is a foil for Lizzy. They both pride themselves on not being taken in by rank or social conventions, and they both delight in absurd characters. But Mr. Bennet's privilege provides him a level of protection Lizzy doesn't have, so he misses the harm that can come from the absurd. Mr. Collins is a mere amusement for him, but a threat to Lizzy. He doesn't need to care about flattering or causing offense, because his future is not at stake. He's permitted a level of eccentricity Lizzy is not.

// Okay but Mr. Bennet would be delighted to meet the Doctor. He loves absurd people, and he loves wit, and the Doctor is just this perfect intersection of the two things that interest Mr. Bennet.

She wouldn't know how to handle him, she's too young to fully break down all of his absurdities, Lady Catherine would eat her alive, and Mr. Collins clearly doesn't care about her. She'd spend the rest of her life being bullied and ignored, for the crime of being an annoying 16 year old.

Headcanon | Lizzy

Lizzy ignores her mother and Lydia ignores her father and they're both related to the dismissive way Mr. Bennet talks to/about Mrs. Bennet. He's essentially created an environment where you have to be on a side, because he and Mrs. Bennet never side together.

Poor Jane has always done her best to stay loyal to both. Lizzy enjoys sharp wit and so very firmly sided with her father. Lydia 'sided' with her mother just by virtue of her liking the same things her mother likes, and Kitty sided with her.

Mary feels like she doesn't know who to stand with. She's lonely and experiencing teenage ennui, and I think she's desperate for somebody to converse with about the things she likes but nobody will entertain her.
