Chapter five

So I found myself stalling badly about a quarter of the way through my book this year trying to come up with ways to drag the plot out for fifty thousand words. I did some research into what other books come in at about that range of words and became instantly intimidated by the Great Gatsby and Farenheit 452. So I decided, after a short break of banging my head on the desk, to do some more research before giving up entirely and found oodles of useful information that I can use to bolster up my main plot. Not only that but it might lead to more book ideas. Yay! So that being said I guess my main point for you is to never give up and to remember that research actually does help! Who knew?!

Day 23

Well, that was definitely better. I managed to get caught up today, with everything else that was going on. I was less than 100 words from par for today.  So if I can pull that off again for the next two days, I should be able to enter my words by the 25th.  Super yay. If not I'll keep on going till the 30th.  For today, here's my sample:

He turned circles in the room trying to figure out where exactly she was when he realized that while she was in this room, she somehow wasn't in this room with him. Papa shifted his form back to being a man and frowned deeply considering all of his options. He had no idea what had happened to cause this, and he had no idea how to break it. The most likely person with the knowledge on how to break it was the other half stuck in it and unable to be of much help. Frowning even more Papa began to pace the room thinking. While he was thinking he was talking. He wasn't necessarily saying anything important but he was just talking so that the sound of his voice filled the room as if he had a rapt audience.

Day 20.

A little short of the mark that I wanted again today, but I plan on working on it a little bit extra tomorrow so that should help out.  In the meantime here's the latest taste test, let me know what you think.

She began to swim strongly towards the outer wall of the pond when she suddenly felt something brush against her ankle. She turned her head quickly to see what it was but there wasn't anything there. Momma Frog kept swimming on, clutching her golden ball to her chest, and heading up the slope as fast as she could. She felt something long and silky brush against her other leg this time, and then across her back just brushing the tips of her hair. When she turned again to look behind her it seemed to be just a current under water that was brushing across her. She shook the oddness of it off and turned her attention again to the slope in front of her.

Day 19 part 2

Well, my goal had been to get to 30k words today, and I missed that. But only by a little bit. I got stuck about 700 words short so...I think I'll go to bed so that I can get a fresh start on it tomorrow and hopefully know what I'm going to do about this snag that hit me. In the meantime here's the bit for today, hope you enjoy:

* * * By the time the Cat had woken up he was alone in the big bed in the strange room, in the strange castle. Suddenly deciding that he didn't like this idea after all he bolted upright and looked around him. Realizing that all was still fairly quiet he got up and began his usual morning routine. Once he was done with that he left the second story where the rooms where and went to go in search of the others. He had wandered through most of the bottom floor before he found a door half hidden in the shadows of a corner that had previously escaped his attention. He immediately realized that this means that the door must be investigated and he had to know what was on the other side of it.

Day 19, make up work

Since I hadn't been keeping up with my posting on here to let ya'll know how I'd been doing, I thought I'd just have to work overtime a little bit today.  So here is the quote for the first segment of today. 

He would only look at the background for a few minutes before his own reflection would catch his attention and he would stare at it for a few more minutes either checking his sharp, pointy bits, or flexing his little muscles so that his scales danced and gleamed in the sunlight. He would move just so and get a good glimpse of the golden shimmer behind him and his attention would return to figuring out what it was that he was looking at behind him again.

Day 18

So the daily update thing not going so well.  Still, the writing thing going alright considering. Here's the latest.

Momma smiled at the man and reassured him that he had done more than enough by showing them where to go next.  "Oh, but you don't know for sure that he'll be there yet! And it's nearly dark now. You can't continue on your journey so soon.  The children look exhausted.  Listen, stay here for the night. I have plenty of space and you can have rooms all to yourselves and right next to each other. We'll put the children in one room in the middle so everyone will be safe and sound. And after a big breakfast tomorrow you can continue on your way!" He smiled so broadly and like such a proud grandfather that they didn't have the heart to tell him no.  Momma smiled up at Papa, and Papa nodded.  Everyone thanked the man and followed him up to the rooms.

Well, that'll be fun.

Day 15.

Alright, back in the groove. Didn't do as well as I wanted to today, but considering that there were unexpected Dr's visits because a second someone in the house got bronchitis, I think I did fairly well.  Sitting at around 24,000 words. Just a thousand shy of the halfway mark.  And tomorrow is my one day off a week, so I will be writing then. Until then here's what I think is my favorite paragraph out of the most recent set of chapters.

It was a house that looked like it had just stepped out of an old childrens book on it's strange legs. It had white trim and brown walls, with windows that caught what little light there was and made rainbows of it. There were odd little puff like looking flowers growing in bright red window boxes under every window and the door handle was a green swirl. A whisp of smoke curled up out of the yellow block chimney and the shutters were in dark brown that had worn down with spots of lighter brown peeking through the paint. It was the strangest thing anyone had ever seen until suddenly Little Man burst out with his thoughts on it. "It's a gingerbread house!" he yelled. Everyone blinked at him and then looked back at the house.

Day 14

Holy cow! I haven't updated here in forever! Alright. I'm now up to just under 22,000 words. I know, crappy pace lately but I've had a lot going on. Almost everyone in the house is down with Bronchitis, aside from me and the Husband with his broken foot.  Hoo boy fun times.  Anyway, here's a snippet from the most recent section, and I will do much better at both my word count and making sure that I keep everyone all updated.

The Werewolves had told Papa that the only place that had the scent of the Wicked Witch in any kind of recent time was in the Black Forest. They would get the family there and meet their contacts from one of the packs in that area who would lead the Wilde's to where the Wicked Witch was. The Black Forest Werewolves had even more of hatred for the Wicked Witch and even less reason to show any restraint. Most people in the old country could tell a bad Witch from a good one, here they just kinda lumped them all in together.
