Writing prompt D14: Nezha and Adult Kit
SFW, Platonic, Deity reader
LMK
Nezha was going to skin Wukong once this was all over.
The one time he decided to take a break with the group was the one time a random portal decided to make its debut. They were just playing hide and seek, how does one summon a portal by playing a children’s game!?
The portal managed to pull half of MK in when Nezha tried to pull him out. The deity did not expect to suddenly have the weight of two more celestial monkey on his back, sending all four of them tumbling in.
Nezha had landed face first on the ground with none of the members of the mortals that were by his side a few minutes ago.
The young celestial looked around the lush green landscape. The area looked strangely a lot like The Green. Maybe this was one of Kit’s pranks and had sent them here.
“I swear if they had something to do with this.” He mumbled before a heavy staff landed in front of him.
He jumped back just as a someone landed in front of him.
They grabbed the staff that had landed in front of him. The mystery person was a tall and sort of stocky individual. By the look of their armor, some that Nezha had never seen before, it was easy to tell that they were of some sort of high position.
“Its not every day that someone manages to get past my defense and still breathes.” They said casually spinning the staff that nearly impaled him like a toy.
Nezha immediately stood up and got into a fighting stance.
The person in front of him looked oddly familiar. From their clothing to their casual stance with their weapon. But Nezha had never met anyone like this person before, so how could they be familiar to him?
The person in question was also looking at him strangely.
“… Your cloths. Those were the old celestial guards’ cloths, how do you have them? Every single one of those were smelted down at the end of the war.” They asked giving him a suspicious look.
What war? Nezha would have to ask that later.
“They are mine. And what do you mean by the old celestial guard?” Nezha questioned.
There was more silence before the mystery person spoke again.
“What is your name?”
Nezha hesitated for a moment. “Nezha.”
A shocked and painful look spread across the person’s face as the grip in their staff faltered.
“That’s impossible. Nezha is in the palace with Ao Bing and Xiaotian and he would never put on those cloths after what he did.”
Nezha was getting confused now. He hadn’t seen Ao Bing in years and now this person was saying that he was there with him? Something wasn’t adding up. “Why would I be with Ao Bing? What game are you—”
He was cut off when the person suddenly grabbed his arm. Any normal interaction would have Nezha breaking the opposing person’s arm and possibly neck.
But he couldn’t move, he could only stare into the person’s glowing eyes.
They let him go with a sigh.
“Good. Its just a multiversal thing.”
“Multiversal thing?” Nezha questioned.
The person chuckled a bit at his question. “I’m assuming you have a Kit in your universe?”
“Of course I do—no. Oh. Oh! Oh…”
This alternative version of Kit only let out a hearty laugh at the third lotus’s confusion and realization.
“Took you long enough Nezha. And look how big you’ve gotten!” They patted his head like a dog. “I can’t believe you’ve grown so much!”
“I think I should be saying that. Last time I saw you, you were…”
Kit smiled with their teeth. “A kid? Guess I never did it in your world.”
“Did what?”
“Oh, I haven’t laughed like that in a while Other Nezha.” Kit said, completely ignoring the prince’s previous question. “But in all seriousness, I need to take you to see the Emperor so we can fix this.”
Nezha’s eyebrow raised.
“The Jade Emperor?”
Kit grimaced a bit. “Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while, he still around in your world?”
“He’s dead.”
“Ah so we did it then.”
“Did what?”
It was now Kit’s turn to raise their eyebrows.
“The Rebellion, we won, didn’t we?”
@in1-nutshell I drew kit and I hope you have a nice break and good luck with whatever you do next
Kit the Immortal Child vs Erlang Shen
@fireflyse thought I posted this on here already when I got your permission, but turns out I had it in drafts! Posting this wonderful prompt and piece here right now! Thank you once again for supporting me and giving me permission to post it!
Prompt: Kit falls through a portal into the bull castle covered in scars and in full god outfit demanding to have some food before they explain. After getting their milkshake kit explains that during a heaven meeting they found out that earlang was the one who burnt ffm and a small part of the green so they got into a pretty big fight about it.

“…”
“…”
“…”
“… I would greatly appreciate it if you could stop glaring at me.”
“…”
“Please?”
“...”
“… You have your mother’s glare, you know that Red Son?”
The flamed haired baby simply scowled at the slightly pink bandages on the child deity’s face. With a grumble, Red Son tried reaching out with one of his tiny hands to the closest bandage. Kit gently moved his hand aside, causing the baby to grumble even more and made a second attempt.
Small licks of fire danced on the babes’ fingers as he reached for the bandages. Kit winced slightly when the small licks of regular fire turned slightly darker. The child’s power was promising, albeit a little too promising at this rate. They would need to keep a closer eye on their godson when he grew up a bit more.
“Kit. You are avoiding the question again.” A cool yet sharp voice pierced their thoughts.
Kit was snapped back to reality as they looked up to see their hosts sitting across the small table, arms slightly crossed, eyes hard, yet held some concern in them. The Demon Bull King sat on one side of the lavish couch while his wife, Princess Iron Fan sat on the other.
“No, I’m not.”
She raised her eyebrow.
“Yes, you are and you know it.”
Kit rolled their eyes at the comment.
“Tis but a scratch.”
A scowl was slowly creeping on the ex-celestials face.
“A scratch? Your arm almost looked like it was dangling for dear life.”
Kit didn’t look at her and instead focused on the baby in front of them, blowing a bit of air into his face to watch his nose scrunch up.
“I just got a little roughed up Tienshan, nothing new.”
Iron Fan’s eyes narrowed, matching the glare her infant son was currently giving the deity.
“I really wasn’t lying when I said that you and your son have the exact same look.”
Red Son made a sound that vaguely resembled a scoff.
“Do you take us for fools?”
Kit’s eyes widened a bit.
“Of course, not this was just a small scrimmage--”
“A scrimmage?” The Bull King’s voice cut through the air, eyes narrowing at the smaller deity.
“A scrimmage does not leave you with cuts, it leaves bruising. A scrimmage does not have your knuckles split open.” Kit winced a bit at the scolding tone.
“And I know for a fact that a simple scrimmage is not enough for you to bring out that.”
He gestured to one of the corners of the room. There lay Kit’s battle armor, perfectly cleaned from the blood they had stained it with. Their weapons lay neatly beside them as well.
Kit grimaced at the recent memory of crashing into the Bull castle’s kitchen, completely bloodied, and asking for some random ingredients. Granted, maybe they should have waited to ask after getting cleaned up and after the screaming from the staff and Niu, but they really wanted them to make their latest comfort drink.
They were brainstorming on a permanent name for it, so far ‘smoothie’ and ‘milkshake’ were on the table.
…It was kind of bad right now, but they were sure that it would make a great food combination in the future!
“Kit.”
Uh oh, the parental tone.
They hated when their fam—frie—their allies used that on them!
Just because they looked like a child didn’t mean they were one!
They are one of the oldest deities ever!
Show some respect!
But to Kit’s surprise it was the Bull King’s tone that took them off guard. It was… uncharacteristically… soft?
“If you have enemies that need to be vanquished, the Bull Castle will gladly aid you.”
…Huh?
Kit blinked in confusion as Iron Fan nodded along with her husband. Red Son tugged on Kit’s bandages with a determined look on his face.
“Our armies are ready to aid you in any shape or form Kit.” Iron Fan replied.
The Bull king nodded. “I am sure that the Brotherhood will also answer your call—”
Kit tried getting up from their seat, but a certain grumpy baby was making it hard to do so in one movement.
“That’s not necessary!”
“Nonsense, I am sure that even Nezha—”
“NO!”
The sudden yell from the child deity surprised the demons and ex-celestial.
Red Son squirmed a bit in Kit’s arms, flashes of heat and fire dancing through his arms as a wail started creeping up his throat.
Kit blinked before quietly shuffling over to the mother and passed the baby over. The flames started to quell down as Red Son noticed he was once again in his mother’s arms.
“I—I apologize for my outburst… You did not deserve that…” They bowed their head at their host.
“I am grateful for your offer of aid and all… but you cannot tell this incident to anyone. Especially no one from the Brotherhood or Celestial Court.”
“And why not?”
Kit scratched the back of their head and sheepishly laughed.
“I may or may not have…” Their voice trailed off.
“May have?” The bull inquired.
“…May have had a fight with Erlang…”
“… What!?”
…
…
…
Kit didn’t know why they still joined these celestial lunch events anymore.
They were boring and always ended with some sort of passive aggressive fight happening amongst the visitors. Maybe if they were lucky, some interesting gossip or actual fight would break out to make things more interesting.
At least the peach desserts were good.
One of the immortals, clearly intoxicated from celestial wine, patted Erlang on the shoulder.
“And I must say congratulations on the campaign, Erlang!”
Kit paused mid bite.
Erlang was a part of a campaign?
It had been forever since the warrior had actually joined in a Heavenly campaign. If they were not mistaken, the last time he had done one on the realm’s behalf was when Wukong had retreated to Flower Fruit Mountain after eating those peaches, wine and immortality pills. Even then, he was one of their last resorts to fighting the Monkey King.
This must have been serious if the Jade Emperor had called on him again.
… Not to mention that no one had spoken a word of this until now.
The warrior glanced at them before nodding along to some of the drunken immortal’s ramblings.
“I did lead it, but how you know is my question.” Erlang said while taking a sip from his cup.
The drunken immortal laughed as some others joined in.
“Please Erlang, all of the celestial realm knows about this! How could anyone not hear about the burning? You would have to be sleeping under a mountain not to know about this.”
Kit felt their neck stiffen up a bit.
Burning?
Erlang lead a burning campaign?
That didn’t sound like something he would do. Normally he would go for more tactical warfare, taking more traditional routes of honor in hand-to-hand combat.
But to use fire to start and win a campaign? Unless Erlang was doing it for dramatics or was dealing with some sort of demon that required that much flame, Kit really didn’t see the warrior purposely using flames to win a battle.
The warrior in question pretended not to listen to the immortal and continued to drink his tea. Another immortal pipped up.
“I heard you sent thousands of flaming arrows down on them. Was that true?”
Arrows?
“What was the kill count of those simians?”
Simians?
“I even bet those monkey’s were calling on their useless king to save them. Ha!”
The peach treat was fully forgotten by this point as Kit was now staring right at Erlang, waiting for his answer. The third eye of the warrior had found their eyes, equally as intense.
This… this all had to be some sort of coincidence, right?
This had to be some other type of burning the immortals were talking about and not the recent burning of Flower Fruit Mountain and…
Erlang, despite being a hardheaded and a sort of wild card of a warrior, he would never do such an act of destruction on his own. Not to Wukong’s kingdom and innocent subjects. He had his own moral code for god’s sake! Every single moral would have been broken if he had done that! Erlang and Wukong had their differences and fights, but most of it was on a respectable level. Warrior to warrior respect! There would be no way that Erlang would purposely burn the mountain without knowing its consequences.
No, this was all some sort of coincidence—
“You simply must tell us the total monkey count once it was over Erlang! You must have killed over thousands of those low life simians!”
The old deity grew tired of this gossip.
SLAM!
The cutlery and everyone’s drinks rippled violently as the oldest deity at the table slammed their hands on the table. Their eyes darkening and staring directly at the three-eyed warrior from across the table.
“Erlang Shen.” Kit’s voice almost freezing every single immortal at the table.
“Are you admitting to being the one at fault of the burning of Flower Fruit Mountain along with its casualties?”
Many immortals close by the child deity shivered and moved uncomfortably in their seats.
Erlang looked unfazed and simply nodded.
“Yes, I led the attack on the mountain, however, why would you feel concern over it?”
Erlang’s third eye caught Kit’s eyes twitching.
“I know your stance with the Monkey King is questionable, but you do not have jurisdiction over his land.”
Kit was silent for a minute before chuckling a bit.
“Oh, sweet Erlang. You have no idea what you just confessed.”
They stood up from their seat, eyes never leaving the warrior.
“Not only is the mountain very much my business as temporary Co-Regent Ruler of Flower Fruit Mountain,”
With a flick of a wrist, their formal clothes were replaced by jade and rose quartz armor. Audible gasps and immortals rapidly getting out of their seats sounded off.
“But thanks to those pesky little flaming arrows, you have admitted to also being the cause the destruction of over half of The Green.”
Kit ignored the gasps from their audience.
Erlang’s eyes widened for a fraction of a second.
The flashes of the firestorm, screams of pain and withering vegetation were vividly present in the old deities head.
They took out two golden rings from their side, resembling a lot of Nezha’s own golden hoops. The child deity’s flashed with something dangerous as the warrior in front of them had already put a hand on his weapon and looked ready to attack.
“I meant no harm to your Green, Kit.”
Kit clicked their tongue and let out an airy laugh.
“You say you are sorry, but sorry is not going to bring back the lives you murdered that night. That ‘sorry’ is not going to fix both my home’s is it Erlang?”
Their eyes darkened as the warrior brandished out his weapon in full display.
How pitiful.
“Pray to any god you can Erlang Shen, because no one is coming to save you.”
And with that, Kit jumped over the table and launched themselves at the warrior.
“THIS IS FOR WUKONG AND MACAQUE YOU FILTHY MUTT!”
…
…
…
Demon Bull King and Princess Iron Fan remained silent at the wrapped up ending of the story.
Kit fiddled with their fingers a bit. “We fought for a bit, kicked his immortal behind and came here. That’s it.”
The Princess spoke first. “The Green burned?”
They nodded. “Apparently some stray arrows didn’t hit their mark and hit the Green. Don’t ask me how they managed to get there, but I have a personal theory that some immortals didn’t want me hearing about the mountain burning and thought that I would be too busy with the Green if something happened to it.”
They twirled one of the bandages loose ends.
“And as we can see, that didn’t go according to plan for them.”
Kit’s eyes refused to look at the couple.
They paused a bit, their face somehow looking much older for a split second.
“…I’ve never been fond of monkey screams, this… it was bad Niu...Tienshan… I had never heard that mountain scream so loudly before. I’ve never heard Lieur--” They looked away for a second remembering the close call the shadow monkey had during the burning. If Kit had arrived any moment later…
“Is Mihou…” Iron Fan’s voice trailed off a bit.
Kit shook their head, easing some concerns of the bull and ex maiden.
“He is… well not okay, but as okay as we can be after all that…”
“…You put that Mountain first before the Green.” The Demon Bull stated.
It was a fact after all.
Kit shrugged their shoulders as if it were no big deal. “It was more important. I can make another home, you can’t make another Flower Fruit Mountain or make its kingdom.”
“And the Green?” He pressed.
“If your asking if I’ve finished healing it, no I haven’t.”
Iron Fan’s eyes looked surprised. “You haven’t fixed it?”
Kit flexed their hands a bit. “And I don’t plan to until the mountain is fixed and fully restored. I… I owe Wukong that much. I promised him to look after the mountain before he was taken away to who knows where and failed him!”
They let out a bit of a shuddered sigh.
“I let him and Lieur down. Its something I don’t plan on doing again. If it takes years to make sure that the mountain to get better, then so be it. But I will make sure that I pain for my negligence.”
There was a heavy silence floating in the room.
The Bull and Ex celestial’s eyebrows knitted as the story started to settle in.
Not nicely by any means, but the reality of how the child deity had gotten hurt and the reason for why didn’t sit right.
They stood up and bowed at their hosts.
“I’ll be heading out now. There are still a lot of restorations to be done on the mountain and the Green. Thank you for everything.”
Demon Bull King and Iron Fan stood up as well. Kit had noticed that little Red Son was fast asleep in his mother’s arms. He must have dozed off during their story.
“You are not leaving yet Kit.” Iron Fan said as she passed her son to the surprised deity.
She smiled as she looked over at her husband, sporting a determined look.
“Not without our aid.” He said.
Kit blinked. “Niu, I don’t need your aid to fight Erlang—”
“Not for that. We are going to help with the restorations.”
Kit paused for a second before smiling genuinely in the first time since the fire.
“Guess I can’t stop you two, can’t I?”
The couple shook their heads as they all started heading out the door, reading the carts and supplies for the journey to Flower Fruit Mountain.
Hopefully Macaque will be okay with the extra help.

“Umm, MK?”
“Hmm?”
“What’s with the clones and the board?”
The boy and his clones looked over at the pig chef who was leaning against the doorframe.
The room was a mess, more than usual. Different kinds of papers and art supplies were scattered around for different uses. For example, the party clone was half buried in a pile of papers holding a yellow list in one hand and a magnifying glass in the other. Pigsy had never seen that clone do anything so… serious before. But he was also 80% sure that the magnifying glass was just there to make whatever activity more ‘fun’.
The artist clone was completely ignoring everything around him. Using some headphones to focus on making some cards in front of him. His face was scrunched up with concentration and little mutters about the cards needing to be ‘perfect’. From what Pigsy could see, those cards were getting some of the best calligraphy he had seen from MK in a while. All those hours staying up at 4 am seem to have paid off for whatever that was for.
The delivery clone was organizing a pile of sticky notes and scraps of paper. Pigsy would have mistaken the clone for any other clone… except he knew which clone this was because of the snack bowl that was at his side. It looked like the clone had created some sort of reward system for himself with the snacks to keep on working.
MK himself was standing up in front of the board with a red marker on hand. Dozens of papers and photos were on that board, most of them being pieced together with red string like those crime shows he watched from time to time. But the biggest thing Pigsy noticed on that board was the picture of Kit that was at the center of it all.
What in the world was his kid doing?
“Just planning. I’ll get you up to speed when I have everything done!” MK said as he made a small note on the board.
Pigsy raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms. “What do you mean I’ll get caught up to speed? You know, when I said to rest today, this is not what I meant.”
Pigsy knew for a fact his son wasn’t going to rest when he told him that this morning. But he also didn’t expect to find a war zone in the room either.
“Why don’t you take a nap?” Pigsy tried to say.
“But this is important!” MK exclaimed waving his arms up.
The big paper pile moved as a small head popped out and nearly scaring the life out of the pig.
“I found the paper MK!” Sweet little Bai He waved the paper in her hand.
“Thank you!” MK’s clone grabbed the paper from the little girl’s hand and patted her head. She smiled at the affection.
Great, more questions…
Pigsy did his best to suppress his groan. “Kid, why is Bai He here?”
The little girl waved over at him was she got up from the pile of papers.
“Hi Mister Pigsy! Are you going to help with the party too?”
“Party?” Pigsy raised his eyebrow as MK wince.
“Bai He, he wasn’t supposed to know yet.” MK bemoaned a bit. “I still haven’t gotten everything planned out yet.”
Well, this did answer some of the chef’s questions.
Sure, the kid had planned birthday parties before, no matter how hard it was for him to stay focused, MK always made sure these kinds of things were well done.
Speaking of the boy, he looked a bit defeated before gathering some notes in his hands.
It was explanation time.
“Well, you remember last week I hung out with Kit—”
“You mean when the kid kidnapped you mid delivery and didn’t return you back until the next day? And had everyone running around losing their minds? Yeah, I remember that.”
MK winced a bit at the pig’s sarcastic tone.
“Yeah, that time. So, I kinda found out that Kit hasn’t had a birthday in a very long time and decided to throw them a party! They even told me when it was when I asked!”
“And are we sure that this ‘long time’ isn’t a ‘I celebrated my birthday last year’ kind of long?” A new voice sounded behind the chef.
Tang stood behind Pigsy, nursing a cup of tea and looking around the room from the door.
Bai He raised her hand.
“Yes, Bai He?” Tang responded, taking a sip of his cup.
“MK said that Kit hasn’t celebrated their birthday in forever!”
“…As in last week forever or before Monkey King was around kind of forever?” The scholar asked.
“Definitely the before Monkey King.” MK responded a bit sadly. “They said they remember last celebrating it years before Nezha was around.”
Oh…
That was… that was a long time for a kid not to celebrate their own birthday.
But why?
The kid had plenty of immortal people to celebrate it with, why not celebrate it?
You know what, that was a question for later. This chef had some birthday meals to do now.
Pigsy cleared his throat. “What does the kid want to eat on their birthday?”
MK smiled as he pulled the cap off his marker. “I’m glad you asked!”
…
…
…
“Hey Bud! We don’t have training today; you came here to hang out?” The Monkey King asked as his successor walked into the new house.
He placed his peach teacup down to ruffle MK’s hair. The delivery boy laughed at the gesture as something shiny caught the king’s eye.
Three envelopes decorated with shiny golden borders were in MK’s hands.
“Can’t hang out today Monkey King, I’m a bit busy planning and delivering these invitations.”
A new chuckle entered the room. It would have scared anyone who wasn’t familiar with the shadow monkey’s antics.
Wukong rolled his eyes a bit as his successor’s smile showed a bit brighter. The shadow on the wall grew a bit before the Six Eared Macaque walked through. He flashed a smug look before leaning a bit into the pair’s personal space.
“And to think that I thought proper invitations were going extinct.”
Wukong rolled his eyes again. “Who says those are yours Macaque? Obviously one of them is for me. Look at the pretty gold edges!”
“Actually, two of these are for you guys.” MK interrupted passing one to each of his mentors before handing the extra one to Wukong.
“I can’t get to Nezha, you think you can get this to him?” MK asked.
Wukong nodded before plucking a hair clone, passing the instructions, and watching him fly off.
“So, what’s with the invites bud? Must be a big deal for you not to text us.” Wukong asked lightly, running a finger over the designs.
He had to admit it; this was one of MK’s best artwork yet. Maybe he can frame it if he’s extra careful with it?
BEEP!
BEEP!
BEEP!
MK looked at his phone in panic before racing out the door.
“I’m behind schedule! All the information is on the invitation! See you guys later!”
“Wait kid—and he’s gone.” Wukong pouted a bit before he heard a sharp intake behind him.
He looked behind him. Macaque had opened his envelope and was staring rather intently at the invite. Or rather staring at it as if it just told him about the greatest secret of the universe.
“What’s with you?” Wukong asked walking over.
“…It’s a birthday invitation…”
Wukong raised his eyebrow.
“Okay? For who?”
“…Its Kit…”
…Okay, Wukong was kidding when he mentioned a secret from the universe, he didn’t really mean it!
The Monkey King ripped open his envelope, mourning a bit of the torn envelope. He’ll just ask MK for a painting with those designs later.
The invitation was even better looking than the envelope. Not just the colors and calligraphy, but also because it had the most sacred date, he had been trying to get for most of his immortal life. Older immortal beings didn’t celebrate their birthdays too often. It was a bit of an unspoken rule that after a while the parties start to dwindle until it’s only a passing mention.
Wukong wasn’t like that. He was still young in comparison and still had some celebrations with his monkeys.
But Kit?
He couldn’t remember anyone muttering about celebrating the kid’s birthday even once. It was a question he had been trying to get out since they became friends. He only stopped asking after seeing how sad it made them.
How in the world did MK get this information!?
“…How...?” The Great Sage croaked.
“I don’t have the slightest idea.” Macaque said softly.
“…”
“…”
“I’m going to get them the best gift!”
“Over my dead body Wukong!”
…
…
…
“Mother. Father. We have an invitation.”
It was rather strange how Red Son got this envelope.
He already had gotten glimpses of the Noodle Boy making practice designs on scrap paper a few days before. The prince didn’t think too much about it, he thought the boy was just lazily doodling with the papers.
But when the Dragon Horse Girl came up to him with an envelope with the familiar designs and a eerily chuckle, his suspicions started.
Princess Iron Fan looked down on the envelope and hummed a bit.
“It does have good colors.”
The Demon Bull King huffed a bit.
“So, the Little Thief is also capable of art as well? Not surprising considering he is Macaque son.”
“Father they are not father and son.”
“Keep telling yourself that son. You didn’t see how Wukong and Macaque looked at each other during our Brotherhood days.”
The fire wielder finally flipped the envelope open and started reading it.
Red son’s shock was nothing compared to his parents.
“HOW DID THE BOY FIND OUT THEIR BIRTHDAY!?”
…
…
…
“Nezha!”
“Oh, gods what did you do this time…”
“Hey!”
Nezha groaned loudly as the clone of the Monkey King huffed indignantly.
“For your information, I’m just here to give you this thingy. Big meanie.” The clone muttered that last part before thrusted his hand out to the deity.
An envelope?
Nezha took it with some caution.
“…How do I know this isn’t a prank?”
The clone shrugged. “Don’t know. MK made it.”
Nezha’s eyebrow rose a bit. He hadn’t heard much from Mk in a while. Why would he need to give him an envelope?
“Thank you.” Nezha said.
The clone gave a cheeky smile before poofing into a couple strains of hair.
He shook his head and quickly opened the envelope.
What could be so important that it had to be sent through an envelope—Oh.
Oh!
OH!
BUT HOW!?
…
…
…
Kit was really starting to feel like telling MK about their birthday was a bad idea.
No.
No, it wasn’t.
They were simply trying to avoid the feelings and memories associated with their birthday.
The deity hadn’t celebrated since… since Zephyr…
No, none of that!
Kit was absolutely determined to give the best reaction to this party.
For MK.
The poor boy had already been through so much and needed an outlet to think of something else rather than the fate of the world. If that meant telling him when their birthday was to make a small celebration, then by the gods, they were going to stomach it!
Yet, despite everything, Kit was still nervously checking their outfit, fixing the bracelet Bai He gave them and pushing down every possible excuse to cancel the festivity.
Besides, they were pretty certain a small group of people were going to want an explanation too why they told the boy and not them all those years ago.
“C’mon Kit… it’s just one party. It’s nothing that you haven’t handled before.”
Not their best peptalk, but a peptalk nonetheless.
Before the deity could think twice, they snapped their fingers and dropped into a portal.
…
…
…
Admittedly, the party wasn’t a bad idea.
At least when Kit tried to think of this all as a get together than a day celebrating them. The adoration and worship were good for the first few millennia, but it kind of got old afterwards. Especially the weirder worshipers who always wanted to touch them in some form and smelled like rotting cheese.
Small groups of friends were much better.
The party was held on Flower Fruit Mountain; it was the easiest place to meet up (as well as being the closest place to The Green). There was a colorful banner that read ‘Happy Birthday’ as well as matching streamers with their favorite colors.
Kit was all but tackled the second their feet hit the sandy beach by MK and Bai He. The duo practically dragged them to the rest of the group who had just finished setting everything up.
They didn’t ignore the painfully warm feeling that seemed to spread through their chest as friendly smiles and congratulations sounded off. Even the polite teasing from certain individuals didn’t snuff the feeling. The party was stunning and great! All its mini activities and talks!
Even included some of the following:
Arm wrestling between the mortals and immortals (It was a bit hard for DBK to do considering his massive hands dwarfed theirs).
Sandcastle building contests (Kit and Bai He swore vengeance on the Traffic Light Trio after they won).
Trust falls (Kit and Bai He got their vengeance after MK decided to do a running start for his ‘fall’ with Red Son. Mei took pictures of the sandy duo afterwards.)
But the thing Kit enjoyed the most as the evening was setting in and the pieces of cake were being shared were the stories.
Good food, good drinks and a relaxing setting always meant the best stories were buried just a little bit beneath the surface.
Just like the one they were telling now.
One of the many stories of them babysitting a young Red Son.
“—And then he made the cutest little murder face when I told him he couldn’t have the rest of the desert tray! You remember right Gongzhu?”
The queen laughed at the memory as her husband let out more hearty chuckles.
Said Red Son was burying his face into his hands, fiery hair acting a bit wilder than usual. It matched well with his bright red ears.
“Please end me…” he groaned.
Mei took another picture of her friends’ misery.
“Never!” she cried out as Mk patted the princes back while laughing. “Any more stories about Red Boy, Kit?”
Kit wheezed a bit as they started chugging some immortal wine that Nezha had brought with him.
Bai He patted their back a bit as they wheezed again. She looked a bit concerned before spotting a funny looking imprint on their collar bone.
“What happened there?” she pointed at the marking.
Kit did their best not to stiffen when her thumb ran over the old marking.
That wasn’t exactly the best story to tell at a time like this… but it was Bai He asking…
Kit flashed a bit of a smile before pointing to the marking, catching everyone’s attention. Whether it was under knowing eyes was not up to them to describe.
“I got this one when I got into a bit of a nasty fight with some friends of mine. They were having a bit of a disagreement at the time and things kinda escalated.”
Kit pretended not to notice Wukong’s flash of guilt nor Macaque’s dropping down a bit.
“One of my friends was about to deliver a real big blow, and being the awesome deity that I am, I took the hit.”
They laughed/wheezed a bit while showing off their smile.
Bai He frowned at it.
“But didn’t it hurt?”
Kit ruffled her hair a bit. “Just for the first year, but I don’t feel any pain now. The only ‘bad’ thing that came out of that fight was me sounding like a squeaker toy!”
Bai He looked like she wanted to ask something else but decided against it. She smiled and poked their side.
“You do sound like a squeaker toy. Just like Mr. Kitty’s toy!”
Good, she was distracted.
Everyone was distracted by the squeaker sound and weren’t looking at the slightly devastated looks on the celestial monkey’s faces.
Mission successful!
“But wait a second.”
Dang it, MK!
“What happened to your friends? Are they alright? How did the fight end?”
Kit swallowed a bit, trying their best not to think on how a certain staff felt half buried inside their chest.
They took a quick swing of wine before responding.
“The fight ended quickly after I took the hit. They… they were at each other’s throats for a while and doing a bunch of self-blaming. But jokes on them, I would have repeated the same choice over and over again.”
Kit made sure to glance over at Wukong and Macaque before turning their attention back to the crowd.
“Now! Who wants to hear the story of when I doodled on Erlang’s face?”
Nezha choked on his drink as Wukong suddenly looked very interested.
“Excuse me you did what!?”
“Shut it Nezha! I want to hear about this!”
“Wukong no!”
“Wukong yes!”
Kit could only smile to themselves as the Third Lotus Prince glared daggers at the Monkey King and the others laughed.
… If birthdays could be like this all the time… maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to celebrate next year…

“Hey Monkey King, I got a question.”
“Sure, ask away bud!”
“What do you know about Kit?”
Wukong raised an eyebrow in a confused manner. “You’re going to have to be a bit more specific than that bud.”
“I don’t know” MK waved his hands around a bit, almost as if he were trying to grasp the questions he wanted to ask. “I just want to know a bit more about them, I guess. Maybe be their friend? ”
The king patted his successor’s head. “That’s nice of you, but Kit is a bit of a difficult kid to befriend.”
MK cocked his head to the side. “Really? But they’re just a kid? Aren’t kids the easiest to be friends with?”
“Ah, Ah, Ah. Kit’s a deity MK and definitely NOT a new one.” The monkey laughed a bit. “You do know that Kit’s older than Mac and I right?”
The king’s laughter only grew seeing MK’s eyes growing comically large.
“What!?”
Another pat was earned on the successor’s head.
“Here’s a mini lesson for ya bud, Kit’s one of the oldest deities to ever exist. They’ve been around for more lifetimes than you can imagine.”
“Oh… but how come Kit’s still tiny?”
The ginger monkey shrugged his shoulders. “Don’t know. They never answer that question.”
MK suddenly looked serious. “Do they have a family?”
Wukong blinked a bit, trying his best to word the best explanation he could.
“They-umm—oh boy… Listen MK— Kit doesn’t exactly have a family.”
“But they have you and Macaque, right? Aren’t you guys their family?”
A bit of a messed up family if you ask Wukong.
“Sort of? Anyways, Kit’s very picky with friends, what makes you think you got what it takes?” Wukong asked a bit smugly.
What he said was true, Kit was acquainted with many deities, mortals and demons, especially back in the old days. But to have the title of friend was something very few beings had ever had the honor of carrying.
…The topic of family was almost taboo to say around the smaller deity…
MK shrugged a bit. “It kinda has something to do with my last delivery…”
…
…
…
“All right! One more delivery to go and it’s off to training!” MK said to himself as he bundled the last remaining bags onto his tuk tuk. The engine hummed as it started down the road, almost syncing with the rhythm of the music the delivery boy was listening to.
It had been an extremely slow week all things considered. Not that he wanted more work done, but Pigsy had promised that if nothing came up in the next 15 minutes, he would give him the rest of the day off.
MK had been meaning on getting back to his training with Monkey King, even more since Macaque started offering help as well. It looked like he was being serious about starting the ‘redemption arc’ of his. Monkey King was less than thrilled to see the darker monkey around, but MK had a small feeling both of them were happy to see each other.
Or not.
It was kind of hard to tell with both monkey’s being at each other’s throats.
BEEP! BEEP!
The sound of the GPS alerted him that his last stop was… somewhere.
MK looked around at the entrance of some spooky woods.
Where did this entire forest even come from!? Had he been so absorbed in his new headphones he missed the place? No, this was the right place according to the order and it’s not like Pigsy would ever give him a false address either—
OR!!!
It could be another test by the Monkey King! Just like what happened during his lessons for focusing!
MK let out a heart laugh before getting out the cart, slipping his staff into his hands and pointing it into the dark forest.
“I know what you’re trying to do Monkey King! And this time, I’m ready! So go ahead! Throw whatever scary thing you got at me! Nothing you can throw can compare to the thoughts in my head!” The young successor waved his staff around a bit more. Completely unaware of the growing circle of light underneath him.
“I said, BRING IT—”
CRACK!
MK looked down to find the ground missing. “…On..?”
The Monkie Kid screamed as he fell through, nearly landing on his face when something grabbed his ankle. The tukt tuk landed safely besides him as the portal looking thing vanished overhead.
“You finally made it!”
MK looked over at the owner of the voice, a smile quickly appeared on his face,
“Kit!”
The child deity laughed as they floated down and carefully dropped MK on the ground.
“The one and only!”
MK threw his arms around the smaller child lifting them up and spinning them around. A bunch of childish giggles and laughs erupted from their chest as they hugged the other boy back and buried their face into his neck.
MK stopped spinning before gasping dramatically. “Wait! Was that portal thingy you!?”
Kit nodded as they quickly jumped out of MK’s hold, sticking a playful landing and smirking. “Yep! That was all me! Speaking of portal thingy, the noodles came through too, right?”
The delivery boy quickly ran to the tuk tuk and produced the two bags of noodles.
“Got them!” he chirped, ready to hand them to the smaller child, but they just nodded and turned around.
“Good. Now we can get to eating.”
MK blinked slightly baffled.
“Wait what?”
“C’mon Monkey man! We got some noodles to eat!” Kit exclaimed as they grabbed MK’s arm and dragged him away from the cart.
It took a few seconds for MK to properly take in his surroundings as Kit continued to drag him along. Instead of the scary looking forest he had seen before the portal, he was looking at a peaceful wooded area. It strangely reminded him a bit of Flower Fruit Mountain, but at the same time it wasn’t. Some new plants grew here and there, a few grand willow trees and clear ponds. A little piece of paradise if you will.
Kit turned to him with a wide smile, gesturing the scene in front of him.
“Welcome to The Green MK, my home.” They said the last bit with a softer tone.
The pair walked a few more feet before MK saw what had to have been the oldest temple he had ever seen in his life. It was that type of ancient beauty that effortlessly started blending with the green foliage, somehow making it look even more magnificent in the process.
Kit led him all through the old steps and into, what he had to assume was a dining room, and patted the plush cushions.
“Take your seat and dig in!”
They ate, drank, and joked around for a bit until the food was done. Mk noticed the kid looking at him strangely from time to time.
“Hey Kit.”
Kit looked up from their cup of juice. “Hmm?”
“…You know if you have a question, you can ask me, right?”
The kid was quiet for a minute before putting their cup down. The air growing a bit serious from the carefree laughter from a few moments ago.
“You know, being around for a long time you see certain things in your life.” They chuckle a bit as MK is once again reminded that Kit was in fact a deity that had probably been one since Monkey King was around.
“What you and your friends with the Lady Bone Demon… “They looked at his eyes with tired knowing eyes. “I know that is weighing on you boy.”
MK tensed a bit as Kit continued. “When I heard the news about her being around again and about your little group being on a journey to stop her… I may have been watching you all from afar.”
MK eyes widened. “You what!?”
Kit ignored his cry. “And I know for a first time hero like yourself, your first world ending threats are usually the ones that weigh you the most. And considering that your mentors aren’t exactly the best terms and are a bit too blindsided with their things to check in on you—”
“You invited me here to check in on me?” MK finished.
Kit nodded taking another swing of juice. A bit started dribbling down their chin, but they wiped it with the back of their hand.
That was… actually really nice.
But more importantly…
“If you were around, how come you didn’t come fight LBD? Or help us with the major fights?!”
Kit fiddled a bit with their fingers a bit at MK’s rightful questions. “I know I didn’t interfere too much. I couldn’t give that witch another vessel, but I made sure that some things did go your way. Who do you think made sure your supplies were well stocked and Sandy having the right tools to fix things?”
MK smiled a bit before taking note on how quiet it was. On Flower Fruit Mountain there was always some sort of noise going around. Whether it be from the wind, the bugs, or the chatter from the other monkeys, there was always some kind of noise.
It sort of felt like Kit was the only person living in the place. Surely the kid would have some sort of family or friends around here… somewhere…
“Hey Kit, can I ask you a question?”
Kit lit up. “Of course! What is it?”
“…Do you have a best friend?”
Kit’s eyes widen in surprise at the question before smiling sadly.
“Yeah, I had a best friend.”
Had…
Oh Great Sage, they used ‘Had’…
Kit started the story. “Zephyr was a demon, a very powerful wind demon. I met him not too long after my first few centuries of being around.”
MK gasped. “That’s like supper old!”
Kit chuckled at their younger companion’s look before continuing. “We did everything together. Going on adventures of all kinds. From retrieving relics from the bottoms of the ocean to battling bird demons that dared to claim Zephry’s titles. Heaven wasn’t exactly fond of our friendship, but we didn’t care. All we needed was each other and that was enough.”
MK was starting to feel déjà vu for some reason…
“After a few years, we had everything we could have ever wanted. Food was never short, we had created dozens of temples, this one was sort of a blueprint for most of our other temples, we even got to play hero for a few years. But the best thing we had was our fighting arena.”
Kit flexed their twig like arms a bit. “It might come as a shock to you, but I used to be quite the fighter back in the day. Oh, you would have loved to see our sparring fights MK. Sometimes we would do free for all’s or add challenges to see who was the strongest… though due to some complaints with the emperor we had to tone our big fights to every 1000 years.”
MK eyes widen. “Every 1000 years?!”
Kit nodded. “To make some of the fights interesting, we wouldn’t have any contact with each other to not spoil any surprises when we eventually fought. A certain number of deities and crowds were made because of our legend.”
They gave him a bit of a mischief smile. “You can ask Wukong, Macaque, Nezha, DBK and PIF. I know I’ve seen them around during the years.” The smile, however, dropped a little bit with the sudden tone change. “Our last fight was… sudden to say the least.”
“Last fight?” MK repeated, internally wincing to see how Kit’s eyes somehow looked like they ached.
“Yeah, the last fight… I… I should have asked what was wrong more. He didn’t look right but I ignored it. I thought he was trying to play a trick on me.” They pause a bit before continuing. “The fight started out like normal. The usual combos and launches… but then he broke one of our most sacred rules in the fight.”
“What was the rule?” MK asked tentatively.
Kit was quiet for a few seconds, eyes glued to the little flower they had been fiddling with. “Never bring a love on into the fight.”
MK gulped silently.
“That and stabbing.” Kit mentioned in a nonchalant way.
“Stabbed!? But you’re super tough? Like Monkey King tough!” Mk exclaimed, already trying to use his golden vision to see any stab wounds.
Kit brushed it off as if it were a minor inconvenience. “MK there are things in this universe that can hurt even old immortals, this was one of them. It was a deep wound… and he kept on striking me until I was just a twitching body in a deep crater. He flew off after he saw I wasn’t getting back up.”
Kit’s hand ghosted over one of their shoulders before dropping the arm.
“I don’t really remember much besides the pain, but I was told ol’ Nezha found me and brought me back up to Heaven to patch me up… I never saw Zephyr after that day.”
MK stayed silent for a bit. “…What would you do if he came back?”
Kit laughed somberly. “I don’t think that’s possible buddy. I found out after a century of searching for him that he had died of natural causes… I didn’t believe it at first. It didn’t sound like him to go out just like that. Maybe in the battlefield or chocking on some poisonous berries but not of old age.”
The child deity wrapped their arms around themselves loosely. “That was until I took a small visit to the Diyu and found out from the Kings that it was true… but if Zephyr ever did come to me randomly one day, I think I would just ask why.”
Mk tilted his head. “Why?”
Kit nodded. “I just want to know what happened for him to do that. But I guess I’ll never get that answer.”
Mk shuffled a bit. “Did you ever have any other best friends after him?”
Kit paused. “… No. No, no one could replace him.”
The kid suddenly got up.
“I think I need to get you home now. I don’t exactly want to deal with the wrath of your father’s.”
Mk got up as well. “Oh, its fine, I can get the cart and drive back when you open that portal again. But also, I don’t think Pigsy and Tang would do much if you tell them what happened.”
Kit looked at him confused. “Who says I was talking about Pigsy and Tang?”
Now it was MK’s turn to be confused. “Who else could you be talking about?”
“… MK do you know how feral Wukong and Macaque can get? I just finished trimming my flower beds and I will not have them ruining them.”
“Monkey King and Macaque are not my dad’s!”
“Sure, keep telling that to yourself Monkey Kid.”
“Its Monkie Kid!”
“Did I stutter?”
…
…
…
MK was looking at his hands once he finished his story. Wukong was uncharacteristically silent through the whole thing.
“…They seriously brought you to The Green?”
“That’s what you got from the whole thing!?” MK exclaimed, slightly angry at his mentor. “Seriously!?”
A slightly eerily but familiar chuckle was heard from behind the pair. Wukong’s shadow seemed to stretch and glow a hint of purple before a darker monkey walked out of it.
“Macaque!”
“Macaque.”
The darker monkey mockingly clutched his chest at the sound of the annoyed monkey in front of him.
“Wow Wukong, you sure know how to make someone feel welcome huh?”
Wukong just rolled his eyes and glared at the warrior. “What are you doing here? Just lurking around?”
Macaque just shrugged. “I was going to do some scheming, but I couldn’t help but overhear the little story the kid was saying.”
He turned to MK. “But I am on Wukong for this part as much as it pains me to say it. But Kit really let you in?”
MK nodded. “Yeah… is that a bad thing?”
Wukong shook his head. “Remember how I said that Kit doesn’t take anyone in as a friend? Well, this is a big leap. They don’t trust just anyone inside the Green.”
“True, it took mean a couple of centuries to even see the outside of the Green. Wukong took an extra century to even come near it.”
“Hey! I was doing other things!”
Kit’s smiling face popped into MK’s mind.
“They trust me that much?” MK asked out loud.
Macaque patted his back. “Must have done something real personal for Kit to put that much faith in you. Huh, I’m almost jealous.”
“But I haven’t done anything!” MK exclaimed in confusion. “We haven’t really talked that much and that day in the Green was probably the closest thing we’ve had to a conversation.”
Wukong shrugged while trying to shoo macaque away from hist student.
“They probably see you’re a worthy person bud. You’re a good kid MK.” Wukong patted his head with that last comment.
MK gave a halfhearted smile, though not entirely feeling the worthy part.
“Hey Monkey King? Macaque?” MK called out to both monkeys. “You guys want to make a noodle delivery?”
…
…
…
Kit was aware of whatever entered and exited the Green. From the smallest insects to someone as large as the Demon Bull King, they were aware of it. So, when they sensed the sudden presence of not one, but three beings enter the area, Kit was a bit on edge.
“Yo! Kit! Kit Kat! You here?”
Kit immediately perked up at the sound of the Monkey King’s voice and practically flew to his location. It wasn’t often that Wukong left and visited them in the Green.
Or that anyone would visit that much.
Kit’s excitement only grew seeing MK and Macaque standing side by side with Wukong.
As soon as Kit was within reach, MK gathered the child deity into his arms for a tight hug. They hugged back with similar vigor. Once they were released, Wukong gave them a side hug and Macaque a polite pat on the back.
“Well, what brings you all to the Green? It must be something important for you all to be here.”
“Of course, it’s something important.” MK stated.
Kit nodded, fully ready to assist them, when they saw the big to go bags from Pigsy’s.
Maybe they brought food on the way here?
MK dramatically coughed before producing a couple of colorful rectangular boxes.
“I brought some extra board games for us to play! Macaque mentioned a while ago that you’re the master at games.” Macaque noticeably shrinking a bit as a noticeable flush tone brightened on the tips of his ears. “And I need a friend to help me beat Monkey King in it! Can you help?”
Kit looked a bit shocked, momentarily disarmed by the word ‘Friend’.
It had been a long time since anyone had used that word before… it felt nice…
The deity covered their shocked look with a mischievous one. “Is that so?”
They eyed the two monkeys’ before laughing. “Let’s make this a bit more interesting. We play in teams and the winner… the winner gets to boss the other team for an entire week!”
A flash of competitiveness went by everyone’s eyes.
“You’re on!”
“Get ready to lose kids!”
“Bring it on!”
“Yeah! Kids versus parents!”
“Kit we’ve talked about this! Monkey King and Macaque are not my dad’s!”
“Bio dads.”
“No!”
