If there was one thing you never doubted, it was that your siblings loved you.
The Sully children were inseparable despite their differences, and somehow, you fit perfectly among their chaos.
Neteyam had practically made it his life mission to keep you alive whenever you wandered into the forest. You had a terrible habit of following interesting plants, animals, or sounds until you realized you had absolutely no idea where you were.
The first time it happened, Jake had nearly panicked after discovering you had wandered off for two hours.
After that, Neteyam appointed himself your unofficial guardian whenever all of you went outside.
"Where is she?" Neteyam asked one afternoon, looking around frantically.
Lo'ak blinked. "Wasn't she behind us?"
The eldest Sully immediately groaned and rubbed his face.
"She was behind us five minutes ago!"
The two boys found you twenty minutes later sitting beside a stream, happily watching a tiny forest creature drinking water.
"There you are!" Neteyam sighed in relief before kneeling beside you. "You can't just disappear!"
You tilted your head innocently.
"I didn't disappear."
"You absolutely disappeared."
You simply smiled and held up the little flower crown you had made for him.
"Oh."
His expression immediately softened.
"Well...you still can't disappear."
From that day onward, Neteyam always made sure you were close enough for him to see.
If someone asked where you were, everyone automatically looked toward Neteyam because he always knew.
He walked beside you during hunts, sat beside you during clan gatherings, and gave you half of whatever food he had whenever you forgot yours.
You were precious to him.
Then there was Lo'ak.
If Neteyam was your protector, Lo'ak was your best friend.
Perhaps it was because the two of you shared something no one else in the family truly understood.
Five fingers.
Lo'ak had inherited Jake's hands while keeping Neytiri's beautiful blue skin. He was lucky enough to be accepted by both worlds, even if some Na'vi children teased him for his hands.
You, however, had inherited almost everything human except your features.
Yet Lo'ak never made you feel different.
When the two of you were younger, you had developed a habit of holding his hand whenever you walked together.
You loved comparing your fingers.
"They look the same," you smiled one day while placing your hand against his.
Lo'ak laughed.
"Well, yeah. We're siblings."
Neteyam rolled his eyes as he watched the two of you.
"Can you two stop holding hands for five minutes?"
"No."
"No."
The two of you answered immediately before continuing to walk away together.
"You guys are weird!" Neteyam yelled after you.
"You're just jealous!" Lo'ak shouted back.
The truth was, holding Lo'ak's hand always made you feel normal.
When other children stared at your skin or whispered about your appearance, Lo'ak simply grabbed your hand and continued walking as if nothing had happened.
He never pitied you. He never treated you differently.
To him, you were simply his sister.
Then there was Tuk.
Your sweet little sister adored you more than anyone realized.
Whenever Jake wasn't carrying her, she was usually attached to your side.
She loved sleeping beside you and would proudly tell anyone that you were her favorite sibling whenever someone asked.
You braided flowers into her hair, helped her with her lessons, and carried her whenever she grew tired.
At night, if she woke up frightened, she never ran toward Neytiri or Jake.
She crawled into your hammock instead.
"Can I sleep here?" she whispered sleepily.
"Of course."
You loved taking care of her because unlike yourself, Tuk had never questioned whether she was loved.
You hoped she never would.
And finally...
Kiri.
Your relationship with Kiri was complicated.
You loved her. Of course you did.
She was your sister.
Yet whenever you looked at her, something painful settled inside your chest.
It had nothing to do with her being adopted.
You never cared about blood.
At least, that was what you told yourself.
The problem was Neytiri.
Kiri was not Neytiri's daughter by blood, yet she received everything you had begged for silently throughout your entire childhood.
You remembered sitting outside one afternoon watching Neytiri braid Kiri's hair while laughing softly at something she had said.
You sat beside them quietly holding flowers in your lap.
Perhaps if you waited patiently, Mother would braid your hair next.
Your tail swayed slightly in anticipation.
Maybe today would finally be your turn.
Twenty minutes passed.
Then thirty.
Finally, Neytiri stood up.
"There," she smiled warmly at Kiri.
"Thank you, Mother."
Mother.
The word felt strange every time Kiri used it.
Neytiri smiled before walking away to continue her work.
You remained seated.
Your flowers slowly slipped from your hands.
"Oh," you quietly whispered to yourself.
Maybe next time.
There was always next time.
Another day, one of the clan children laughed at Kiri's hands.
"She has five fingers like the humans!"
Before anyone else could react, Neytiri immediately knelt before her daughter.
"There is nothing wrong with your hands," she said firmly while gently holding them. "They make you who you are, and you are perfect."
Then she embraced Kiri protectively.
You stood only a few feet away.
Five fingers.
You also had five fingers.
Yet no one had ever comforted you whenever children whispered about your skin.
No one had ever held your hands and told you that you were perfect.
You quietly stared at your own fingers before lowering your gaze.
That night, you sat alone outside your home while watching the stars.
A thought that had lived inside your heart for years finally surfaced.
I am her daughter.
The thought made tears fill your eyes.
I am her blood.
You remembered watching Neytiri hold Kiri after she cried.
You remembered seeing her smile proudly whenever Kiri spoke about Eywa.
You remembered all the times she chose to spend time with Kiri while passing you by.
You loved Kiri.
You truly did.
But sometimes, you hated the jealousy that settled inside your chest whenever you looked at her.
Because Kiri had something you had spent your entire life quietly wishing for.
A mother.
And the cruelest part was that she was standing right beside you all along.
You had never wanted to be anyone else.
You only wanted Neytiri to look at you the same way she looked at your siblings and say, just once,
"My daughter."
Yet somehow, despite sharing her blood and her family name, you always felt like the child standing outside the circle of her mother's love, patiently waiting for a turn that never seemed to come.
