GREG DULLI : LOCKLESS
(Lockless Monsters)
The Lockless Door
It went many years, But at last came a knock, And I thought of the door With no lock to lock.
I blew out the light, I tip-toed the floor, And raised both hands In prayer to the door.
But the knock came again My window was wide; I climbed on the sill And descended outside.
Back over the sill I bade a “Come in” To whoever the knock At the door may have been.
So at a knock I emptied my cage To hide…

Long time no talk. How've you been?
Hey. (:I’ve been.. On a pretty insane rollercoaster of BS, LOL.How about you?
Comparison of lackless poems
Seven things has Lady Lackless Keeps them underneath her black dress
Seven things stand before The entrance to the Lackless door.
-Obviously stated, this is what you need to open the door.
One a ring that’s not for wearing
One of them a ring unworn
-less obvious. There are mentions of rings you aren’t supposed to wear. The bone ring from Stapes, the wooden ring from Meluan. There’s also the wooden ring Auri found in the “underthing” the remains of the old university from an ancient time, possibly one of the destroyed cities in the lanre/tehlu stories. There’s also the ring of standing stones Kvothe sees in his dream, also called waystones.
One a sharp word, not for swearing,
One a word that is forsworn
-I believe this is a true name. Whether it’s the name of the door, what’s behind the door, or something else completely, I’m not sure.
Right beside her husband’s candle
One a candle without light -Tamborlin the Great’s candle? Auri’s light Foxen? The dark candle from the Chandrian pot? Who’s to say?
There’s a door without a handle One a door that holds the flood
-we only know of two doors without handles. The one in the archives, and the one on the lackless estates. The reason the skrael and shamble men are walking in the mortal realm now. Kvothe opened it without thinking about the consequences. A recurring theme.
In a box, no lid or locks Lackless keeps her husband’s rocks
One a thing tight-held in keeping
-the lackless box. Kvothe said it sounds like glass or stone. Could it be the box from the Jax story? It holds part of the name of the moon. That could explain why it feels like there’s a stone inside it. The mountain glass (obsidian) that Selitos uses to carve out his eye? They mention it could be something dangerous. Skrael eggs?
She’s been dreaming and not sleeping
Then comes that which comes with sleeping.
- a reference to the sleeping mind being awakened? Death?
On a road, that’s not for traveling One a time that must be right
-a moonless night. One of the things a wise man fears. You shouldn’t travel any roads on a moonless night. Leads to the fae realm.
Lackless likes her riddle raveling
One a son who brings the blood
-kvothe, obviously. But it’s it because he has lackless blood? Or because he’s a lackless that brings the blood of the Edema Ruh, the nomadic tribe as old as the lackless family?
The only line left out is
There’s a secret she’s been keeping
-it could be the thing tight-held in keeping, the secret of her “riddle raveling” the mystery surrounding kvothe, or what she’s dreaming of/that which comes with sleep
Anyone else with theories of their own?
lockless replied to your post:people who can just look at a math problem they’ve...
I am a wizard *wizard hands*
I COULD BELIEVE IT!!!
