Sorry to ruin this pretty post with text, but, guys… Who called Kvothe Dulator? Cause I’m pretty sure Denna never said that to him. And if he is claiming Denna is not his first true love… then who is it? Will it be someone in book three?

felurian never called him dulator either, and neither did that girl with red hair he slept with after leaving the fae realm. Despite the whole Denna situation, i personally would have thought felurian to be his “first real lover” since she was the first woman he slept with (and also seemed to at least have a mutual deep affection, if not some sort of love). Or maybe the red haired girl since she was “real” in the sense of not being fae (then again, that seemed like more of a one night stand than any sort of actual “love”) (then again, maybe he’ll meet her or felurian again?) so many different possibilities and interpretations!

I don’t recall a time that name had ever been said besides his fancy little intro in either of the books! Oh man, this third book is going to ruin us all you guys. We are going to fall apart and sob. Welcome to fandom hell, welcome to fandom hell.

He doesn’t admit to loving Denna, and never mentions loving Felurian, or any other girl he had sex with… Maybe his first real lover means the first girl he will admit to loving? Still, I have trouble wrapping my head around how that could be someone else than Denna, because even if he doesn’t admit he loves her, it’s obvious to everyone (except her maybe)… In any case, I think the mention of “first real lover” seems to imply there was more than one?

But who? He never mentions another woman as much as Denna in any of the books. Even with Felurian (if i remember right) he freaking things of Denna! Weird, cause that woman would be the last thing on my mind with a fae goddess. The only other person I can think of that he thinks of so fondly and so often is Auri, but Auri isn’t really suitable. And that relationship is more platonic than it will ever be romantic… Mola and Fela have their respective counter parts. No way it’s Devi. Maybe one of the Adem come back?

And maybe he seed Denna and Felurian and all the others he slept with as lovers, but not full lovers. Like, part-time (???) or almost lovers.

It might be a character we haven’t seen yet and that would appear in book three Or maybe the girl who shows him the drawings from the Chandrian urn? (Can’t remember her name atm) Yeah, he might not count them as “real” lovers I guess

Mmm I can’t find any clear mention of her age but she’s described as a “young woman” in ch 82 of notw, and at that point Kvothe is 15? 16? So I don’t think it would really be impossible, but it’s not really likely either

I really think it's Auri. I know she's a little damaged. But damaged people need love too. And it's very obvious that they love each other in one way or another. And Kvothe seems the type to use the word lover in its most poetic sense. Not just sex. Not just someone you like. It's making love to the one one who loves you. And Auri is the type to call him Dulator, just because she likes how it sounds. And maybe Kvothe's reputation is hanging heavily on him. It's forshadowed in Slow Regard that she will share her home with him.

Hi! I had a few thoughts I wanted to share. -Bast being Kvothe's son seems so unlikely to me. If everyone the Felurian slept with, got her pregnant then the whole of the Fae ought to be filled with her children. -Why so many locked things?! Doors of Stone, Lady Lackless' Box, Thrice Locked Chest. Are they interconnected? Locked in the same way? Yeah... Just my musings. What do you think? Love, Steph

I agree with you entirely on the Bast bit. They could definitely have similar locking mechanisms… I for one am still wondering what the key Auri gave to Kvothe unlocks. I think people tend to theorize more about what’s in the boxes than how to open them but I sure would love to hear theories on that too!

I just posted a theory about how the boxes and doors are locked a few days ago, but I'll slim it down. It's the magic of writing things down and making them true. The yllish story knot I'm the lackless box. It's the story of who, when, where, and how the box and doors will open.

What if Meluan Lackless is not Kvothe ´s mother sister but Denna ´s?

That would be interesting? I don’t really know how plausible it would be, as they’re pretty far apart in age, and Denna was alone and far from Modeg/Vintas when they met. He does see something in Meluan that is familiar, but I’m pretty positive it’s because she reminds him of his mother.

I had a feeling about this, too. I can't remember the exact quote, but I remember Kvothe describing Meluan's lips the same way he describes Denna's. And if it's Denna that ran away with the Ruh, it would be more recent and that's why Meluan is still upset about it.

Honestly I have no idea? If anyone wants to jump in here that’d be lovely. Something about the ways that time is different in the Fae… I’m not sure. Don’t think it’s super plausible but hey you never know.

So, when kvothe entered the fae realm, he spent months there with felurian. But when he left, only hours had past. Time works differently in the fae realm. Walk one direction makes it day, the other makes it night time. Keep walking and time will keep cycling. People disappear for years and come back unaged. Disappear for a minute and return an old man. Bast could have grown up in the fae realm, then exited at the right location to join kvothe.

I am thinking now that maybe Dulator is not the name given by the first lover (relationship) he had, but maybe the first person who told him that she (or maybe he) loved him.

You could be onto something!
